The Overall Winning Artists Category consists of the 10 Best Entries received from the 3 media categories of the Painting & Other Category, Photography & Digital Category and the 3 Dimensional Art categories. 

The winning artists will now be featured on the Light Space & Time website for the month of April 2021 and thereafter, the artworks and links to the artist’s websites will remain online in the Light Space & Time Archives.

The overall winning artists’ category of the 11th Annual "Figurative" Art Exhibition will receive extensive worldwide publicity and promotion.  In addition, the overall winning artists will also receive extensive worldwide publicity in the form of email marketing, 550+ press release announcements, event announcement posts and social media marketing. 

Winning artists will also have their art exhibition results posted and promoted on ArtJobs/ArtWeek. Artweek/Artjobs produces 800,000 page impressions per month, 280,000 website visitors per month and has 30,000 newsletter subscribers.

1st Place – Overall - M. Gilmour - "Sitting. Waiting.”

Based in Munich, Germany, Michael is a Senior Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. With no formal training in fine art (Michael's formal education is in accounting and law), Michael is a self-taught painter who has relied on practice, casual advice, books and videos to develop his painting techniques since he began painting in 2012.

Michael favours representational art with the aim of giving the viewer a high sense of realism to create the illusion of life. Michael prefers still life and figurative motives, and generally works with photographers to find natural compositions.

2nd Place – Overall - Christophe Drochion - "The Angel”

Christophe Drochion tries to paint as realistically as possible and light, the symbol of life and spirituality, is the essence of these pictures. Light is of primary importance. It brings out the true feeling of a painting and makes it successful. He mostly refer to symbols and construct his images in trying to impress the viewer within a chronological history of life through the itinerary of the eye represented in painting. I really feel at ease with a hyperrealistic technique and an acrylic medium, (He also appreciates oil and gouache).

3rd Place – Overall - Gareth Jones - "When Da Vinci Dreamed the Stars Sparkled”

Photography is Gareth’s artistic release and brings his imagination, vision and inquisitive mind to visual life following a career as a forensic scientist. Gareth’s art explores bold abstracts or unique perspectives created from his original photographs or digital art. Gareth presents moments of beauty, quiet joy or intrigue in balance with the need to draw attention to important issues.

Everyone needs a break from today’s unending negative news and Gareth provides a breather from the stress of today’s world. He still brings difficult issues into his art - but is convinced that balance is the critical life component and as such, hopes his art will heal this disparate world through creative expressions, thoughtful moments and visual enjoyment or challenge.

Gareth photographs everything, big and small, that makes him stop, look, think, smile, or feel and then puts his unique take on it. Gareth’s images often offering something to everyone. His curiosity fuels exploration of the world via the abstract, urban, and imaginative images that arise.

4th Place – Overall - Kevin Edwin Pettelle - "Crouching Man”

Kevin Edwin Pettelle was born, raised and resides in Washington State, USA. While growing up, his father Ed worked during the week as manager of the Art Department for the Seattle Times newspaper. But on the weekends, he painted. This was Kevin’s earliest exposure to the world of fine art.

As a child, Kevin aspired to become a physician because of his fascination with the human body. Although, in high school, it soon became clear that he the sciences was not his calling, he DID however find his true calling in the visual arts. Kevin’s obsession with the rhythms and flow of forms he saw moving though out the human figure never lost its power on him.

After leaving high school, Kevin moved north and landed a job as a scrimshaw artist (engraving on ancient mammoth ivory). Beyond the ‘job’, he learned importance of forms created by light and shadow, the immense power of negative space and patience. After a 6 month stint he was fired for ‘bad attitude’ (choosing Rembrandts over hour flowers, always!), he then formed a studio with three other scrimshanders and reached for the stars.

In 1980, Kevin established his personal studio and started to sculpt. Bronze was the chosen medium because of its many sculptural qualities including, but not limited to, its longevity, its softness, its ability to accent form and its unparalleled ability to interact with light.

The human body with all its parts always commanded his interests. The challenge then was to take this subject with its timeless beauty and began to master the medium of bronze, an ancient demanding complex process, to express it. After countless years working the craft, the language of the sculpture grew with the language of the bronze.

Kevin’s work displayed widely in galleries, public venues and collections. Although the subject can be challenging to some eyes, the timeless beauty, strength and poetry that is the sculpture is its true mission.

5th Place – Overall - Carol Gooberman - "Quiet Afternoon”

Carol graduated from Moore College of Art ('77), and began her professional career as assistant to the Art Director in various advertising agencies. In 1987, she opened the Art Depot, an art school in Merchantville, New Jersey that provided classes for adults, teens, and children. 

Carol has participated in outdoor Art and Crafts Festivals in NJ, painted a series of ten "Memory" paintings for Alzheimer patients, and currently teaches adult painting and drawing classes at Markeim Arts Center in Haddonfield, NJ. She also curates art exhibitions at the gallery at Jefferson Cherry Hill Hospital in Cherry Hill, NJ

Her work includes pastel drawings and oil paintings of Victorian and beach themed people and places, cats, sunsets, and flowers. Pastel colors and bright sun light are used to create colorful shadows and reflections, which creates a kind of "soft realism." Carol loves when her art reminds viewers of a family member, cat, or special memory.

Carol currently resides in Haddonfield, and in her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren.

6th Place – Overall - Cher Pruys - "Girlfriends”

“To take my inner visions and with my hands create a work of art for you the viewer....that is the ultimate in self-expression.”

Spending many hours at the conservatory of music in Regina, studying music and ballet, as well as being mesmerized by the painters and potters on campus, Cher was exposed to the world of the arts early.

Dedication, motivation and talent have seen this self- taught artist excel on her artistic journey. An attitude that limitations are only as limiting as one makes them enhanced her development with her chosen mediums, watercolor, acrylic and gouache. Her love of light, and how it dances off the objects it strikes, accompanied by her captivation with realism and adherence to fine detail has resulted in a style that is enjoyed, admired and appreciated by art lovers worldwide.

When she doesn’t have a paintbrush in hand, Cher can be found teaching piano and guitar, or working on a fused glass creation. Her desire to share her love of the arts is realized through the many hours she teaches, children and adults alike.

Cher says, “Art is such a positive experience just waiting to be realized. Every day is an opportunity to do what I love and follow my passion.”

7th Place – Overall - Agnes Jorgensen - "Sleeping Giant”

Agnes Jorgensen is an award-winning artist living in Sainte-Anne-Des-Lac, Quebec, Canada. She attended the Academy of Realist Art where she acquired her skills to create figurative oil paintings that fuse Old-Master techniques with a contemporary narrative style.

Agnes was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. At the age of 24 she picked up her first set of paints and discovered how exciting and rewarding it was to delve into her emotions and express herself on canvas. Her process of layering rich, vibrant colors with soft gestures creates an expression of feminine softness, harmony and depth in her oil paintings.

Agnes explains ‘’ The heart of my work is to take those subtle ideas from deep within, bring them to life on canvas and touch one’s soul with emotion’.

Her success began early when she won Best in Oils and Honourable Mention for her first International Juried Art Show. She won the hearts of Manitobans with her Ducks Unlimited Sponsor Print and her bejeweled bear, Bling Bling, a CancerCare Manitoba project. Agnes Jorgensen’s artwork is part of private collections throughout the world. She has received special commissions and top awards for her artwork. Agnes was awarded a commission from the Manitoba Metis Federation to paint a figurative portrait of Prime Minister Paul Martin. Her painting was presented in the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, Ontario.

She has received several national and international awards and many publications have featured her and her art including the Important World Artists 2014 Vol.1. In 2020, her painting ´ A Spiritual Journey ´ and in 2019, her painting ‘Every Dream Begins with a Wish’ both received won an Award of Excellence from The Healing Power of ART & ARTISTS and won an Award of Excellence in ‘HerStory’ 2019, from Manhattan Arts International.

In April 2020, her painting ´ Prima Dancer ´ received a Special Merit Award from Light, Space & Time, 10th Figurative Art Exhibition, California, USA. The artist has participated in four exhibitions at Manitoba Art Expo and has had solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums in Canada including those held at the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, Ontario; the Regional Museum of Vaudreuil-Soulanges, Quebec; the Leonardo da Vinci Centre, Montreal; and the Toronto Art Expo, Ontario. In New York, she has exhibited her artwork at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel and the Rockefeller Center.

Agnes and her spouse Andre Chatelain founded a non-profit organization Painting a New World, www.paintinganewworld.com. Through the sales of their artwork, they support artists in Africa and Haiti, helping to create positive changes in their communities. In 2009, they were presented the Humanity Art Award from the Academie Internationale des Beaux-Arts du Quebec.

8th Place – Overall - Drury P Bynum - "Rosie”

Drury Bynum grew up in the Deep South and was introduced to art by his Aunt, who made paintings of swamps. Her attention to detail in everything from the plant and animal life to the algae-covered water made a huge impression on him.

This launched his pursuit of drawing and painting with an intense focus on realism that continues today. School honed his practice of figurative naturalism and landscape painting and later introduced personal narrative as a way to explore themes inspired by his interest in film.

A recent exercise in portraiture renewed Drury’s passion for realism, where he is currently exploring ways to honor classical techniques with modern subject matter.

9th Place – Overall - Carlos G Scott - "cgs003”

Carlos’ work has evolved from producing strictly representational themes to include abstract, semi-abstract, and impressionist images that highlight textures, colors, and forms found in common every-day subjects.

Among his current motifs, you can find reflections in the Miami River, the natural decaying process of leaves and plants, as well as the natural effects of time, weather and oxidation on metals and other materials. Though they may retain strong aspects of their original forms, many of the images are striking for their divergence, or, transformation into new forms, textures and colors that are choreographed in a spectacular movement across the spectrum.

His style and vision endeavors to present something different that encompasses a clear overall impression that reveals additional interesting features and textures upon closer inspection.

Artists as varied as Ansel Adams, Henri Cartier Bresson, Georgia O'Keefe, Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso Jean-Michel Basquiat and Salvador Dali are prominent among the influences in shaping Carlos' artistic vision.

Carlos has exhibited his work in several prestigious galleries in New York, Washington DC, including Art Basel in Florida.

10th Place – Overall - James McRoberts - "See No Evil”

Jimmy McRoberts is a Fine Art Photographer from Eastern Kentucky. When he isn’t out capturing Americas Landscape, he spends his time his studio capturing Alluring & Elegant Images of Women, to celebrate the beauty of the female form. He is an accomplished artist in this with capturing images and showcasing them in galleries, art shows, and even publishing a book of them in 2015. His business Alluring Elegant Portraiture sets out to capturing portraits of women to show them and to help them feel like the Goddess they are.
