Artist Biography:
Richard Wong is a professional wildlife, pet and mural artist based in Victoria, BC, Canada.
He started art as a hobby after retiring from a career with the Province of British Columbia within the Ministry of Environment in 2009. He did not even know how to paint at the time of his retirement.
"Art has definitely become a personal journey. My work within the Environment Ministry has given me an appreciation of nature and wildlife, and how fragile our surroundings really are."
Since his early childhood in Saskatchewan and having retired on the West Coast, Wong has been fascinated with our wildlife. Noting the fragile nature of our surroundings, Wong has dedicated his art to capturing and preserving this beauty and its wildlife.
"Art has defined my evolution as an artist. I had no idea art would lead me to a second career. It is delightful to let art do the work, tell me what to do, where to go. Art is enjoyment, something to share and be shared."
Richard Wong enjoys west coast living in beautiful Victoria, BC, and balances all life has to offer through teaching, watercolor fine art and commissions of wildlife and pets, as well as murals.
