The Overall Winning Artists Category consists of the 10 Best Entries received from the 2 media categories of the Painting & Other Category and the Photography & Digital Category.

The winning artists will now be featured on the Light Space & Time website for the month of July 2017 and thereafter, the artworks and links to the artist’s websites will remain online in the Light Space & Time Archives.

The overall winning artists’ category of the "Seasons" Art Exhibition will receive extensive worldwide publicity by having their winning art presented on Artsy.net. The LST Artsy.net page will feature the artist’s art, an excerpt of their artist's statement and their website URL’s as part of the gallery’s overall prize package.

In addition, the winning artists will also receive extensive worldwide publicity in the form of email marketing, 1000+ press release announcements, event announcement posts and social media marketing.

1st Place - Gay Young - "Headwaters"

I choose to work in fiber because I love color and texture. While I am primarily known for my landscapes, it is color that pulls me in and texture that keeps me intrigued. Color fascinates me in its complexity and its simplicity. Combining color with the textures of silk, cotton, and linen provides almost unlimited design inspiration. Add to that the technical questions of execution and presentation, and art becomes a wonderful puzzle to solve. I dye my own fabrics and incorporate painting, screening, sun printing, and other techniques into my work in order to achieve just the right effect. Many pieces take months from conception to completion, going through several transformations, guiding my process. It is my hope to share my pleasure in these simple materials with others.

While I enjoy working with color in any media, the tactile qualities of fiber have held my fascination for many years. I dye large pieces of fabric, cut them into small pieces, then stitch them back together. Quilting adds a wonderful dimension and texture. 2nd Place - Danielle Austen - "Tremont Falls"

Danielle Austen is an award-winning fine art photographer specializing in intimate portraits of the environment. She was trained in the traditional fine arts of painting, sculpture, drawing, and photography where she received her BFA from Cornell University. She worked as a graphic designer before attending the master’s program at the Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, in photojournalism.

Working for newspapers and magazines, her editorial work has been published locally, regionally and nationally, including “Life’s, The Year in Pictures.” Returning to her fine art roots, she has combined her skills and training and has participated in over three dozen national and international juried exhibits, two group shows and three solo exhibits.

She has attended six Artist-in-Residency programs; the Rocky Mountain National Park, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, twice at Acadia National Park. Everglades National Park and was a Fellowship recipient at the Vermont Studio Center.

3rd Place - Julia Michry - "Tree in the Snow"

Julia Michry was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Her love for art and design started early and by the fourth grade, she was enrolled in an art school for gifted students. After graduating from high school, Julia studied at the Leningrad High Art Industry Institute, one of the country’s best art colleges.

Her medium is watercolor, and while her work reflects a deep love of nature, it is also rooted in Julia's Russian background.

4th Place - Lu Ross - "Catamarans"

Life is about following your passions. Two of Fine Art Photographer Lu Ross’ greatest passions are photography and travel. While traveling the world, surprising opportunities present themselves through beautiful landscapes, cultures, and abstracts that scream to be captured for eternity. A review of Ross’ art pieces reveals a great deal about the artist’s love for nature, color, and abstraction and suggests a passionate and emotional view of the world.

Like many artists, Ross’ love for art began at an early age. “My mother was a painter,” Ross says, “and as I watched her work I became inspired by her art. Since we traveled frequently I took to photography as it seemed to be the best way to capture the world I was discovering.” Ross is an explorer at heart and traveling the world became as natural as breathing.

Having grown up in a world of travel and art influence, Ross knew she wanted to pursue the art of photography. However, her parents were concerned that she wouldn’t generate enough income with her art and encouraged her to pursue a more traditional career path.  Photography and travel came together as one, in the subject matter and essence of her work.

Ross’ travels inspire a wide range of subject matter in her work. “As a photographer, I use natural light to capture moments of beauty – be that individuals, cultures or nature – to inspire and connect the viewer to the joy of life. It’s all about painting with light and telling a beautiful story. Shooting with natural light gives me the freedom to travel the world in search of ideal locations and circumstances.”

Ross’ work is representational as well as abstract. It is characterized by the way she captures light, by her love of bold and vivid colors, as well as her masterful use of the artistic elements of line, texture, and shape. Her favorite subject matter is the beauty found in nature and it’s interaction with light, especially the magical light found during sunset and sunrise. Her abstract work is often an isolated section of a scene, yet expressive, colorful, and conveys strong emotions.

5th Place - Anita Marci - "Three Umbrellas"

Anita Marci is an Award-Winning professional fine artist who began her illustrious career at the age of ten when she won her first Art Award and became a published artist. Originally from Pennsylvania, Anita Marci graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1982 with a Bachelor of Fine Art in Communication Design. After graduation, she immediately took her new position as an illustrator and designer in a high profile New York City design firm after a whirlwind trip to Europe visiting seven countries in three weeks.

In 1985, upon receiving a painting commission of sixty watercolors for "Everlastings - The Complete Book of Wildflowers," the artist left the design firm and Anita Marci Studios was established. The successful Park Avenue Art Studio specialized in Commercial Product and Package Design for the Cosmetics, Fragrance, Publishing and Textile Industries. Clientele included Celebrities and the world’s largest Corporations such as Calvin Klein, Karl Lagerfeld, Elizabeth Taylor, Estee Lauder, Elizabeth Arden, Halston-Borghese, Revlon, Lancome, Unilever, Nine West, and Springmaid. June of 2015 marked thirty exciting years in business for this dynamic art studio.

In New York, in 1998, Anita Marci became a Fine Arts Instructor and an active art exhibitor showing her Award-Winning Watercolor paintings. By January 2003, when she relocated to Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii, she was a nationally known and respected Art Workshop Instructor. On Maui, she taught privately and at the Hui No'eau Art Center, the Art School at Kapalua, the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, and the Maui Marriott- where she was the artist-in-residence. 6th Place - Julie Powell - "Helmeted Honeyeater - Spring"

Moving beyond the realm of simple photography, Julie Powell creates surreal, whimsical and fantastical works of Digital Art, often capturing emotion and moments in time along with symbolism to explore reality on a slightly different level.

Born in Melbourne and living there her whole life, surrounded by a vibrant and exciting arts community. While not classically trained, she is mostly self-taught with a background in graphic art and design, Julie has transitioned from more traditional art forms to the digital art medium, often depicting images in her own unique painterly style.

7th Place - Marti White - "Suns"

Marti White is a mixed media artist working in Tucson, Arizona. She works in both abstract and representational subject matter. Marti is mostly self-taught with the help of many artist mentors and workshops. She has always been interested in creative outlets, whether in the home or the studio or the classroom.

Her work is eclectic and covers a broad spectrum of media and subject matter. Marti enjoys working without a lot of preplanning, beginning with color and medium and letting her tools take her where they want to go. The result is a spontaneous expression of her inner self. Marti works in watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, and collage. Her work has evolved over the years and she tends to find working abstractly or at least less literally as time goes by. Recently Marti has worked in series. Her series of Apertures has reached her goal of twenty pieces. These are intended to draw the viewer into the painting or collage so that they can find their own story beneath the surface of the work. Her other works include a series of Scarab Beetles and another of Dragonflies. Marti is easily bored with one approach to her work and loves to experiment with a variety of "what ifs." She is open to using new techniques to play with. These may include papers she has never used before, media that is new and interesting, new methods of preparing papers for collage work, experimenting with various types of transfer methods, acrylic inks, metallic and acrylic polymers.

Marti teaches classes in collage in the community. She also volunteers her time in various arts-oriented organizations. Marti is a signature member of the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild. She is a signature member of the Contemporary Artists of Southern Arizona which she served as president for two three-year terms. She is a signature member of The International Society of Acrylic Painters and a member of The Contemporary Art Society, an arm of The Tucson Museum of Art. She is a member of the Arizona Watercolor Association, an associate of The Drawing Studio in Tucson and a member of PaperWorks: The Sonoran Collective for Paper and Book Artists. 8th Place - Shelley Benjamin - "Autumn Reflections"

Shelley Benjamin is a digital artist who resides in southeastern Florida. She relocated there recently from New Jersey.

She received a BS in Textile Design from Cornell University. After many years as a textile designer and weaver, she became interested in mixed media, and ultimately, photography and digital photography.

Her images are inspired by color, reflections, changing seasons, architectural elements and light.  She uses her photos as the base for a digital painterly approach. Utilizing modern technology, she enhances and transforms the images. Additionally, drawing on her textile design background she imparts a tactile feeling to her images.

9th Place - Kristi Richter - "My Favorite Time of Year"

Kristi was born and grew up in Chicago and now resides in Nashville, Tennessee. Art has always been a priority, and she owes her zealous interest due to her grandfather, who was a professional commercial artist and had a studio in Chicago. Her mother was also an artist, so she inherited talent from both sides of the family.

She had always been interested in art as far back as grade school and art teachers paid special attention to her, encouraging her to develop her natural abilities. As a youngster, she never purchased store bought cards but always created cards for her parent’s birthdays and other special holiday occasions, and she was always designing comic books.

Kristi followed an art curriculum through high school, but it was when she attended The American Academy of Art and Chicago Academy of Fine Arts respectively, that she really started to understand her potential and how to express it. Her studies introduced her to the many facets of art such as advertising, illustration, calligraphy, photography, scratchboard, abstract, design, charcoal drawing with live models, and color schemes. Over time, she was able to recognize her weaknesses and sought ways to improve them, and she solidified her strengths.

Kristi believes a bona fide artist is capable of rendering any initiative and she occasionally undertakes endeavors that do not include animals, which are her passion and forte. Her goal is to capture her subject’s expression, colors, hair, and fur consistencies which can sometimes present a very complex challenge.

Kristi’s favorite medium is acrylics because they blend easily, dry quickly and the colors are opulent and vibrant. Most of her work is done in acrylics and has included pet portraits, posters and advertisements that are animal-related. She has also written and illustrated a children’s book about a dog which she would like to publish.

Second to none is scratchboard which she found particularly challenging because of the complexity of animal fur textures. She views scratchboard as being a very meticulous medium because there is very little room for mistakes, but because of this, the end result is gratifying, and it is her scratchboards that have won first place in several art competitions.

Kristi’s definitive objective is to start a business exclusively doing pet portraits or a favorite wildlife creature rendered in acrylics, scratchboard, watercolor, abstract, and cartoon. 10th Place - Maureen Ravnik - "Autumn on Dallas Divide"

Maureen was born and raised in Minnesota. A brief visit to Colorado sold her on attending college there to pursue a career in sales & marketing. She stayed and never looked back. Working and traveling a lot in that discipline opened her eyes to the wonders of the American West and reawakened childhood tendencies to be creatively involved in art. After a lengthy career in sales & marketing, she retired and bought her first DSLR and began making images of the American West.

Today, most of her time is spent outdoors taking in and capturing the scenery, wildlife, and exploring other methods for interpreting and sharing what she sees and experiences along the way. Maureen has accomplished many things with her photography including images placed in the Audubon International Top 250, local and nationally juried photography exhibitions, winning placements in monthly club competitions, state park calendars, images selected for use by the City of Littleton, and images selected by National Geographic for publication.
