1st Place - Da'Rrell Privott - "Endurance"

Da’Rrell has had a love for the arts for many years. He’s been working as a Professional Photographer & Artist since 2006; perfecting a unique artistic style that has become an intricate culmination of creativity which he uses to push the envelope of normal photography.

In 2007, EnoStyle Magazine placed Da’Rrell’s images, paintings, and sculpted work in a two page published editorial entitled “Man on Fire: America’s Genius Sculptor in Residence”. Since then he’s been focusing his efforts on creating artistic photographs using his vast photography painting, and drawing, skills, which can be described as an art fusion. He creates what he calls “slices of life”, artistic photographs, through his unique methods of lighting, odd angles for composition, and mastering various digital manipulation technics. He then uses his unique painting artistic skillset to incorporate these layers into his designs to communicate deep emotional thoughts with the viewer through his photographic works.

Da’Rrell is inspired by such great art masters as; Henri Cartier-Bresson, David LaChapelle, Annie Leibovitz, and Lyndon Wade. He has received international recognition for his works. In February 2014, he placed 7th in the International Online Photography contest, Light, Space & Time’s 3^rd Annual “All Photography” Art Competition, entitled “Fuming Blue Devils”.

In 2015, he was awarded for the Light, Space & Time’s 5th Annual “ Open” Art Exhibition Special Merit Award for his photo Gypsy Woman. 2^nd Place - Lou Ann Goodrich - “A New Generation"

A lifelong resident of the Pacific Northwest, Lou Ann Goodrich currently resides in Oregon where she maintains forested acreage preserved for wildlife. 

She is a proponent of a balanced environment and habitat conducive to maintaining diversity and sustainability for wildlife and the natural world. Animals have always been a large part of her life and after retiring from a career in medicine she pursued photography to record and express the beauty of nature.

Now a passionate nature and wildlife photographer, she particularly strives to portray species-specific behavior in her images. Recently she has diversified and added digital photo artistry to her skills which allows an additional creativity and artistic presentation of her images. 3rd Place - William Nourse - "Vestrahorn No. 3"

Will purchased his first digital SLR back in 2002 (a Canon D60) and used that until about 2011, sporadically taking images that might be considered artistic, but mostly taking family photos. Several years ago, he became much more intentional about photography, learning about post-processing and focusing on composition, light, and color to create images and to share them with others.

In terms of style, he draws a lot of the Impressionist movement and the Hudson River School, trying to capture the emotion of a scene, best expressed through an emphasis on color and light, rather than photo-realism.

He is a member of the Cambridge Art Association and the Newburyport Art Association, where he exhibits frequently in juried shows. His photo 'Vestrahorn #1' won the Newburyport Development Award for Work in Photography in the NAA's Fall Member's Juried Show Part II.

He is a past exhibitor in the Light, Space & Time Online Gallery, including a 2nd Place overall in the 2016 Landscapes Exhibition as well as a second piece selected for Special Merit.  His work can be found on his website at www.willnourse.photography

4th Place - Peter Alessandria - "NYC Rainbow"

Peter was born and raised in New York City and Long Island. After attending law school, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as an entertainment attorney. Today he is an award-winning, fine art, portrait and commercial photographer based in the New York City area.

Peter spent the first part of his work life as an entertainment and intellectual property attorney in Los Angeles. Working in the film and television industries sparked his own interest in creativity and in the early 2000’s he began experimenting with digital video and became an amateur filmmaker. But it wasn't until he picked up a digital SLR still camera for the first time in 2004 that his full creative passion for image-making came into being. 

Like many people, things changed dramatically for Peter in 2008. That year, as a result of the Global Financial Crisis, he lost his law practice. In the days and weeks that followed he struggled with the question of what to do with the rest of his life. It was only after much deliberation that he decided to follow his passion for photography, and in late 2009, he began pursuing photography full-time. 

As a fine art photographer, Peter has created numerous collections of landscape, seascape, cityscape and still life images. His work has been featured in dozens of solo and group photography and art exhibitions. His photos have garnered popular and critical acclaim: he has won thirty-five (35) awards in the past few years and his work has been the subject of newspaper, radio, internet and television interviews. His fine art photos have been published both nationally and internationally. 

Peter finds inspiration mostly in the work of other photographers - and not necessarily the famous ones. Rather, it is his peers, many of whom he connects with on social media, that inspire Peter to go out and try new things or shoot in new locations. This connecting with others has helped fuel his creativity greatly over the last several years. 

As both a photographer and filmmaker Peter’s intent is simple: create compelling images that appeal to his own sense of beauty and aesthetics. His goal is to use his art - and his life - to inspire others. 5th Place - Nicholas Teetelli - "Mojave"

Nicholas Teetelli is both a published and international award-winning fine art photographer. He was born in New York City and grew up in lower Manhattan’s Greenwich Village. During the late 1960s, and into the 1970s, the Village was a hotbed of culture and the arts. During this period, Teetelli was introduced to art and photography, developing an interest in what would become his lifelong passion.

While he took some photography courses in college, Nicholas Teetelli is primarily self-taught. Spanning the last four decades, he has learned, developed, and honed his skills independently, becoming an avid and serious amateur photographer who has recently turned professional.

Although he lived and grew up in New York City, he has spent many summers in the Greek islands and has traveled to many other places in the world. He continues to travel extensively in pursuit of the perfect photographic image.

During each journey, with camera in hand, he records much of what he sees, sharing the impression of his mind’s eye through composition, light play, and shape and design. His photographic portfolio is diverse: it includes landscape, architecture, portrait, flora and fauna, underwater, and street photography.

He has recently brought his portfolio to the public eye and, in short order, has had more than one hundred of his photographs juried and invited into an exhibition at dozens of galleries and museums across the United States, receiving many awards for this work. He has won awards in international competitions in Moscow and London and a featured artist at major art shows at Art San Diego, Spectrum Miami, Artexpo New York, and has private gallery placements in Vienna, Austria, and Bologna, Italy. www.teetelli.com

6th Place - Danielle Austen - "Bear's Alpenglow"

Danielle Austen is an award-winning fine art photographer specializing in intimate portraits of the environment. She was trained in the traditional fine arts of painting, sculpture, drawing, and photography where she received her BFA from Cornell University. She worked as a graphic designer before attending the master’s program at the Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, in photojournalism.

Working for newspapers and magazines, her editorial work has been published locally, regionally and nationally, including “Life’s, The Year in Pictures.” Returning to her fine art roots, she has combined her skills and training and has participated in over three dozen national and international juried exhibits, two group shows and three solo exhibits, including most recently at the Monmouth Museum in March 2016.

She has attended six Artist-in-Residency programs; the Rocky Mountain National Park, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, twice at Acadia National Park. Everglades National Park and was a Fellowship recipient at the Vermont Studio Center.

Danielle has won many awards, both in her photojournalism and fine artwork. In 2013, Danielle was a national winner of Canon’s “Project Imaginat10n” photo competition with Director Ron Howard. Celebrity director, Biz Stone, the co-founder of Twitter, chose her winning image to help inspire his short film, “Evermore” which premiered October 2013 in NYC.

7th Place - Matthew Derezinski - "Progress"

I am Currently teaching at Truman State University, as an Associate Professor in the Visual Communications concentration were I have taught intro to advance courses and Foundations.

As a designer, I worked in many areas of Visual Communication from print, web, motion, and anima­tion.  In the past few years, my work has been directed towards photographic manipulated imagery.  This work incorporates layers of textural and organic imagery that draws upon my interest in decaying architecture, nature and the Mid-Western landscape in which I live.  This imagery, rich in personally derived symbolism, is organized into mystical and mysterious landscapes.  

While the stories created in the work are not explicit, I incorporate symbols that, like signposts, encourage the viewer to navigate the implied narratives in their own way, based on their own personal experience.  This work recently has been exhibited in Regional, National and International shows.

Before coming to Truman, I taught at Emporia State University, as an Assistant Professor and Head of the Graphic Design area.  I was responsible for teaching all of the Graphic Design courses at Emporia State University. In my beginning-level courses, I helped students understand the visual language of design, through hands-on projects using traditional and digital media.  In intermediate courses, students develop further knowledge of the software, as well as learn professional printing processes. 

My hope is that students start becoming self-aware and begin to develop their own aesthetic.  In the upper division courses, I emphasize theoretical practice as well as facilitate the building of their portfolio to prepare them for a career in a corporate environment.

8th Place - Jonas Travis - "Alien Tomato"

I have been an artist all my life. My career choice was to be an artist. I was a Graphic artist for 30 years and then tried my hand at animation, film production and post-production. After those areas of artwork slowed down I began to dabble in the culinary arts. I had a mildly successful cookie business for 4 years but the urge to draw, paint and just be creative took over and I'm back.

My life has been lived as an artist should live. Be observant, inquisitive, have boundless imagination and through whatever media I can find, to show you what I see, and how I see. I hope these images give you a glimpse of what inspires me to remain an active artist.

All of my hard work seems to be coming to fruition. In June 2015, I submitted 5 photographs to Light Space and Time international exhibit titled "Botanicals". In July I received from Light Space and Time a "Special Merit Award" for the overall exhibit for my "Wild Iris" and "Special Recognition Award" in the photography category for my "Lotus At 9:00 A.M.".  I am thrilled with these awards because this was my first internationally juried art competition.

As of January 2015, I have published a calendar in Great Britain. The calendar's title is "In Abstract" 12 abstract photos depicting the year in the abstract.

To me, as an artist, photography is another paint brush I use to express how I see the world around me and how I interpret my world in my own mind. 9th Place - Elzbieta Kurowska - "Daffodilia"

Elzbieta (Ela) Kurowska is a self-taught photographer and a biochemist with a Ph.D. degree. Her career in art photography started in 2013, shortly after she stumbled upon photographic images made using photoelasticity, an old visualization technique from the field of materials engineering. Ela was so inspired by spectacular bursts of light and vivid colors revealed by solid, translucent resins subjected to deformations and photographed in a cross-polarized light field that she decided to search for an alternative material that would produce similar visual effects but would be soft, malleable and suitable for art photography.

The material that she has found – soft, translucent organic gels – has exceeded her expectations. Not only was she able to adapt her biochemistry lab techniques to physically mold and manipulate organic gels to glow in polarized light upon the stress of deformation. She has also utilized gels’ natural predisposition to produce graceful, life-resembling shapes to magically transform pale, translucent structures into otherworldly images of emerging life made out of light and vivid colors, Light Forms.

Ela’s innovative and inspiring artwork has been presented at several Canadian and international exhibitions and has won numerous awards. 10^th Place - Teresa Chlapowski - "Dark Dreamland"

Teresa is an artist expressing herself in ceramics and glass sculptures, but her interest in photography started with trying to keep up with her husband (a keen photographer), a question of “if you can’t beat them, join them”! With digital cameras it allowed her to experiment with photography much more and gave her endless possibilities to ‘paint’ with her photographs.

Teresa is inspired by the world around her, whether it’s traveling to far-flung places, experiencing new cultures or the detail in graffiti and the surreal, as well as what’s beyond the obvious. By taking photographs, a hobby that’s now become a serious way of expressing her view of the world, she observes what’s around her, delighting in noticing details that the eye might not otherwise have seen or to just to capture a moment in time. Her photographs hope to transport the viewer into a different version of our world and challenge us to really notice that which we might otherwise not see in our extremely fast pace of life.

Teresa has shown at the Mall Galleries, in various other London galleries and taken part in many group exhibitions in the UK. Her photography has been selected for exhibitions including by exhibitoo.com, and shown at the Greenwich Photographic Gallery and the Nude Tin Can Gallery London.
