The Overall Winning Artists Category consists of the 10 Best Entries received from the 3 media categories of the Painting & Other Category, Photography & Digital Category and the 3 Dimensional Art categories. 

The winning artists will now be featured on the Light Space & Time website for the month of August 2020 and thereafter, the artworks and links to the artist’s websites will remain online in the Light Space & Time Archives.

The overall winning artists’ category of the 10th Annual "Animals" Art Exhibition will receive extensive worldwide publicity and promotion.  In addition, the overall winning artists will also receive extensive worldwide publicity in the form of email marketing, 550+ press release announcements, event announcement posts and social media marketing. 

Winning artists will also have their art exhibition results posted and promoted on ArtJobs/ArtWeek. Artweek/Artjobs produces 800,000 page impressions per month, 280,000 website visitors per month and has 30,000 newsletter subscribers.

1st Place - Marion Tubiana - “Atacama”

Born in 1990, Marion Tubiana manifests from the age of 3 a marked taste for drawing and graphic arts, as well as for animals to which she dedicates a real passion. She started horseback riding when she was 5 years old and hasn’t stopped since, starting competition in her teenage years. She possesses permanently about ten animals, cats, dogs, horses.

Self-taught, she works at the feeling and without technical. To give a soul and an emotion to her paintings is before all that she look for. She paints with her heart, she puts what she feels and beyond the realism that emerges from her paintings, she try to have this something that will make it more than a photo. The work of looks and dramatic light fascinates her. The eyes reflect the soul and cannot lie and it is the light that allows her to give dimension and strength.

She works with oil and pastel, two completely different mediums that give her each a lot of pleasure. The painting is made on canvas mounted on a frame; the pastel is made on Pastelmat paper. The painting will bring strength, the pastel a little more velvety and sweetness. Whether with her pencils or her brushes, she works in communion with them, hair by hair, so that the details and the realism are crying of truth and that her paintings can deliver their messages, their emotions.

Her paintings are all created from photographs. For her creations, she first selects them for what they make her feel, the expression, the look, then she imagines how she would like to highlight them, the framing, the light that she wants there put. This research sometimes takes her hours and is an integral part of the final work.

2nd Place - Bernice Fargus - “Awakening”

Animal and bird photography is my passion. I travel constantly searching for exciting new sightings and behavior patterns and am rarely disappointed. The travel has been curtailed of late but we will return to normality one day. Fortunately, the animals are oblivious to this human distress and no doubt are reveling in the peace now afforded them.

3rd Place - Lindsey Kustusch - “In the Wild Morning Air”

Lindsey Kustusch is a self-taught artist internationally recognized for her vivid animal work and dramatic, urban city scenes. She has been exhibiting her work since 2009 in galleries across the United States, and has recently begun teaching workshops around the world.

Her deep connection with animals and love for painting has played a game of “tug of war” on her heart throughout her life. She spent several years at art school before leaving to work for animal rescue organizations, edging towards a career in animal science. It was then that she picked up the paintbrush again and saw oil painting for the limitless instrument that it truly is.

Lindsey’s experimentation and “trial and error” in the studio has led to a layered approach to building a painting making heavy use of palette knives, battered brushes and hardware store finds. Her style offers a compelling juxtaposition of realism and abstraction capturing the extraordinary in life’s everyday moments as well as the adorable and awe-inspiring beauty of life on this planet.

4th Place - Dan Pyle - “Ferocious”

Dan was born in Montana, grew up in Washington State and now lives in California. With virtually no formal art training, Dan has been drawing since childhood. His internationally award-winning charcoal drawings has been exhibited in gallery shows in Palm Springs, Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Hollywood, Santa Ana, Pasadena, Long Beach, New York, Provincetown and West Hollywood.

Dan is also now represented in Europe and travels there yearly for live shows. With his client base extending as far away as Malaysia and Australia his work is becoming known worldwide. Dan’s work is permanently installed in the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas, as part of their impressive commercial art collection and he participated in the epic Art Takes Times Square event in New York City. His drawings have also been published in numerous art magazines & books, both domestically and internationally.

Working exclusively in charcoal, Dan uses a realistic style that mimics photography to the point that his drawings are often mistaken for photos. He loves shadows, contrast, anonymity and using negative space in his compositions. Dan’s gifted eye catches timeless fragments of life in his work---whether it’s the intricate lines of the human hand, the delicate folds of a garment, or a tarnished piece of silver, they are drawn in detailed simplicity.

Dan’s work celebrates his relentless enthusiasm for detail, through a vast collection of subject matter. From muscular figures, to distressed objects from the past, he continues to challenge perfection.

5th Place - Nicole Wilde - “Rapt Attention”

Nicole Wilde was born in Brooklyn, New York. Feeling California’s siren call of freedom and creativity, she moved to Los Angeles in 1987. From an early age, Nicole wrote poetry and short stories, followed by song lyrics, which were put to music for bands in which she played bass guitar. Despite these outlets, she longed for a way to express her creativity in a visual format. Possessing a “good eye” but lacking a good camera, she purchased her first DSLR in 2012 and began learning photography through books, online videos, and workshops. She expanded her knowledge of Photoshop in the same way and eventually combined the two disciplines, allowing her to fully realize her visions through digital art.

Nicole’s other lifelong passion has been animals, particularly dogs and wolves. She co-ran a rescue sanctuary for wolves, and three of the residents came home to live with her for ten years. She became a professional dog trainer, wrote eleven books on dog behavior, and taught seminars worldwide. It was inevitable that her love of animals would find its way into her art. Nicole’s images begin with her photographs taken in nature, zoos, or sanctuaries, which are then transformed through equal parts Photoshop and imagination. Whether focusing on the emotional life of animals or our connection to each other or the Universe, her work reflects the unseen magic that surrounds us all. Nicole’s work has been featured in magazines, in art galleries, and online.

6th Place - Ali Khataw - “Safe!”

My desire to help others and use art to make a difference has inspired me to delve into the world of Photo Philanthropy. Images have an undeniable power, and I want to harness that power and use it to better the conditions of living for those in the world who are not lucky enough to enjoy the luxuries many of us have been blessed with. By means of non-profit organizations and charities, all the profits from my photography will benefit those in need around our communities.

A camera is really an excuse to delve deeper into a place than we otherwise would. Looking for a good shot forces us to seek out the unique features and scenic beauty of a location, to explore further, and to interact with our surroundings. When you press the shutter release, you're making a personal connection to the place and its people. My lifelong passion is to strive for originality and excellence, which is a continuous effort!

7th Place - Bill Wieger – “Silverback Lowland Gorilla”

For as far back as I can remember I have cared deeply for science and nature but especially for wildlife. My talent as an artist and love for nature was innate and enmeshed almost from day one. Most of my early days was spent drawing, painting or sculpting animals. My mom often reflected how I sought specific TV shows when I was a small child just to see the Charlie the Tuna commercial because of my love for fish and the ocean. I could not get enough of Wild Kingdom and Jacques Cousteau and others shows like them.

At my first opportunity, I learned to scuba dive to get closer to marine life and observe them up close and personally. I have been lucky enough to photograph some of the most incredible animals on the planet while conducting research for my commissions. Among them would be the white sharks of Guadalupe Island, the orcas of the Salish Seas, the bald eagles, humpbacks and grizzlies of the astonishing natural habitat of Alaska.

I embarked in the public, private and commercial business as an artist in 1989. This paid the bills but I wanted to do something more worthy with my talents. From the very beginning, I was born knowing three things. First, I am meant to be an artist. Second, I have an absolute love of and passion for wildlife, science and the ocean. Thirdly, I have always wanted to use my talents to do something significant for this planet.

I have an extraordinarily strong design ethic and am extremely expert at getting “life” and “movement” into my creations. I have worked for diverse industries including special effects, toys/collectibles, public art, commercial and private commissions, themed entertainment, theme parks, prop and modeling, 3D manufacturing and related industries (3D printing, CNC, molding and casting, painting, fabrication, etc.) with over 30 years of experience as a sculptor, illustrator, and conceptual designer in the physical and digital realms.

With my success as a professional artist, if I could choose just one subject to create for the rest of my life, it would be wildlife and marine animals due to my deep passion and love for them. But most of all to educate the public on conservation of our planet’s naturally awesome animal resources. I feel a profound sense of sadness at how we as humans mistreat the earth and all the beings that live on it. I want my art to bring the animals to life, to help tell their stories hoping that my audience will want to protect and conserve them as much as I do.

I now live in South Carolina working as a freelance artist and scuba diving any chance I get. I am involved with many animal conservation groups and use my art to help educate the public about animal conservation. I am always trying to push the boundaries of my work and looking for new challenges. Art, nature and wildlife has been so much a part of my life from the very beginning and will be to the very end. This competitive exhibit affords me yet another opportunity to share my passion with an expanded audience and to get them as excited as I am with all of nature.

8th Place - Alyssa Ostrowski – “Silvie”

Alyssa Ostrowski is a 19-year-old artist based in New England. Though she currently studies music with a focus in percussion at the University of New Hampshire, she is also minoring in studio arts. Her passion for the arts have prevailed throughout her entire life via a variety of media - charcoal, acrylic, colored pencil, and digital art. She combines her zeal for art with the unconditional love of her 5-year old Siberian cat, Silvie (or, more commonly known as simply "Kitty").

9th Place - Dawn Maron - “Beach Romp”

Dawn Maron was born in Portland, Maine in 1942. She moved to Massachusetts when she was four. However, Maine was a constant in her life. Her grandparents lived in Maine as well as her aunt. With cottage on Panther Pond in Raymond, Maine, thanks to her parents, summer was all about Maine. Even as a young child, she loved the colors of Maine.

After college, Dawn moved to Ohio and began a career in education. Summers were still in Maine and when it came time to retire, Dawn and her husband moved to there. Now Dawn could study with many wonderful artists, each one contributed to her knowledge and appreciation of art. Dawn quickly realized this was lifelong vocation.

Dawn now works in oils and watercolor and is a member the Art Guild of the Kennebunks. She and her husband were co-chairmen of the Exhibition Committee for several years. Dawn's work has been shown in many juried shows around Southern Maine. She has also been juried into The Vermont Watercolor Exhibition, the Visual Artist and the Roux Cyr Gallery in Portland, Maine.

10th Place - Lisa Taylor - “Bob”

Lisa is from a small town southwest of Nashville, Tennessee. She is a professional artist/oil painter and an 8-year veteran of the US Coast Guard. She has a Bachelor of Science in Logistics & Intermodal Transportation from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. Her appointment to this service academy afforded her the opportunity to travel abroad in the Mediterranean, Middle East and Far East, including transiting the Panama and Suez Canals, an experience that would influence and further shape her appreciation of art and culture. It also earned her a 3rd Mate's Sailing License and Active Duty Commission in the US Coast Guard.

Primarily stationed in Houston/Galveston, TX, Lisa filled numerous positions and roles within the Coast Guard. She was heavily involved in a wide variety of emergency management operations and response throughout the area, specializing in planning and contingency preparedness.

Lisa has always enjoyed and had a passion for the arts. Upon her resignation from the military, she moved to San Francisco and earned her Master's Degree in Fine Art from the Academy of Art University. She has continued to hone and evolve her skills and style, with a focus on plein air and small works painting.

Much of her interest and influence is drawn from nature, but she maintains a versatile approach by not limiting herself to just one genre or type - "Variety contributes to creativity, discovery, and growth."

Currently residing in Nashville, she is a studio artist, art instructor and emergency management specialist. She has been in numerous group and juried shows and has been nationally recognized.
