Artist Biography

Carolyn Adams is a professional artist living in Ponchatoula, Louisiana. Although she primarily works in oils, she also works in other mediums. After getting a degree in Fine Arts, she began her career in advertising. She finally decided to fully dedicate her time and energy to Art and moved to Europe.

Carolyn lived in Europe for 20 years. Her exposure to the European culture had a tremendous influence on Carolyn's life and work as an artist. While in Europe, she had several solo exhibitions and participated in a number of group shows.

Upon returning to the States she was unable to financially survive as an artist. Consequently, she returned to work and only painted when she had the time and inspiration to do so.

Upon retiring, she has once again fully devoted herself to art. She has, again, participated in a number of exhibitions and has been successful in selling her paintings through her website. Carolyn believes that her artwork now reflects her growth as an artist as she continues in her career.

Artist Statement

For years I have studied and experimented with the Imprimatura technique of the Old Masters. Consequently, I have developed a glazing process which serves as a means to achieve the desired results in my artwork. As an artist I am concerned with concepts of space and its relationship to the extremities of chiaroscuro and color intensity. My subject matter varies between the abstract and realism. I strive to find a statement of balance and awareness, a balance between craftsmanship and spirituality.
