The Overall Winning Artists Category consists of the 10 Best Entries received from the 3 media categories of the Painting & Other Category, Photography & Digital Category and the 3 Dimensional Art categories.
The winning artists will now be featured on the Light Space & Time website for the month of February 2021 and thereafter, the artworks and links to the artist’s websites will remain online in the Light Space & Time Archives.
The overall winning artists’ category of the 11th Annual "CityScapes" Art Exhibition will receive extensive worldwide publicity and promotion. In addition, the overall winning artists will also receive extensive worldwide publicity in the form of email marketing, 550+ press release announcements, event announcement posts and social media marketing.
Winning artists will also have their art exhibition results posted and promoted on ArtJobs/ArtWeek. Artweek/Artjobs produces 800,000 page impressions per month, 280,000 website visitors per month and has 30,000 newsletter subscribers.

1st Place – Overall - Sandy Friedkin - "Schnippers for Lunch”
Sandy received a BS Degree from Columbia U., School of Occupational Therapy, and practiced as an OTR for many years. She had training in many artistic & craft media and enjoys taking pictures and post - computer processing. Sandy was born & spent most of her life in New York City. Her family still lives in the New York Metro Area & if she has an opportunity to visit NYC, she takes her camera & goes there. These pictures were taken on one such visit.
Sandy has lived in beautiful South Florida for the past 30 years. She loves the year-round warm climate and the outdoors. There is always something of beauty to photograph, whether wild birds, wildlife, flowers & botanicals, people, architecture or Land and Seascapes. Sandy has had her photographs displayed in many juried shows, galleries, and in many homes in South Florida. She has won a number of “Best in Show”, Special Merit, and Honorable Mention Awards.

I started out as a science major in college, but my love has always been in the arts. I entered several art classes and found photography to be my passion. With photography training at the ICP in New York, I have been an award-winning photographer as well.

3rd Place – Overall - Mats Pehrson - "Killarney Rose”
Born in Karlstad, Sweden, Mats Pehrson has lived and worked in New York City on and off since 1986. After living in New York City for several years, Pehrson went to Los Angeles, California in the fall of 1991 to further develop his art. The experience allowed him to work extensively, preparing himself to pursue a career as a full-time artist upon his return to Manhattan in 1993.
Pehrson moved into a studio space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 1994 with Young Kwon, a Korean artist and art professor who taught him new techniques. Pehrson began experimenting and exploring various ways to create new artwork. Soho was the prominent art arena and Pehrson joined Noho Gallery on Mercer Street in 1994 and had several shows both there and at other places around the downtown art scene.
Three years later, Pehrson spent four months in Barcelona, Spain. He worked with local artists and painted on a daily basis, greatly inspired by Catalan art. Upon return to New York, Pehrson had a show at the Noho Gallery where he exhibited work that reflected the Spanish influences. He was also fortunate enough to find a studio on Beaver Street in Lower Manhattan. In a small building, that houses an Irish bar and restaurant, his studio is almost invisible in comparison to the skyscrapers of the Financial District.
Pehrson also began showing frequently in Sweden and exhibited in Stockholm at Gallery Bergman. Later Gallery Wallmark in Stockholm represented her. Back in New York, the effects of 9/11 on New York City, and more specifically Wall Street, strongly influenced Pehrson’s work. He captured the emotions of the area in a series of 35 monoprints on watercolor paper. This resulted in a traveling show produced by Pehrson in 2003, exhibited in Stockholm at the Gallery Bergman and at the Swedish Consulate in New York City.
Pehrson continued to show heavily in Sweden, both because of the great response he received, but also due to personal reasons. He met his wife who lives in Sweden and he needed to spend time with his ailing parents, now passed away. The following years until present time resulted in a string of successful shows.
He is represented in institutions and private collections in Sweden, Europe and the United States. Exhibitions include Katonah Museum, NY; Volta Art Fair, NY, NY; Vida Museum, Sweden; Kulturhuset/Stadsteatern, Stockholm, Sweden; Ahlbergshallen, Östersund Museum, Sweden. Pehrson currently resides in Chinatown, Manhattan, with his studio on Beaver Street. He is continually affected by his observations of life in New York City - especially the ever-changing urban landscape - and incorporating them with the influences from constantly traveling abroad.
Having exhibited heavily in Sweden, Pehrson is making an effort to show more of his work in the United States. For the first time in many years, he has created a body of work available for the New York and US market.

4th Place – Overall - Karen Sirnick - "Green Light”
Karen Sirnick is predominantly a self-taught photographer who lives and creates in Ponte Vedra, FL. She shares her home with her husband and a beloved rescue dog, Andy. As a child growing up in a family of 13, their vacations were mainly centered on camping and other outdoor activities. As a newlywed, Karen and her husband, Paul, spent many of their vacations backpacking and camping in West Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. She continues to possess a deep love of nature and this subject has been a major influence in her photographic choices. Karen is currently retired and, although no longer backpacking, continues her passion for travel and photographing her journey.
In an effort to enhance her photographic skills, Karen continues to attend photography workshops and submit her work into juried exhibits and competitions both nationally and internationally. The continuing education has provided a variety of assignments, introduction to new software, exposure to a diversity of professional photographers, and invaluable photographic critique.
Karen continues to explore new ideas and techniques in pursuit of creating beautiful and interesting images. Her work has received awards in a number of juried exhibitions across the United States. Her work also resides in a number of private collections.

5th Place – Overall - Eric Renard - "Rendezvous in Venice”
Eric M. Renard is a Los Angeles based Photographer. Born in New York, he attended school in Riverdale, NY. Eric spent his summers in Maine, where he was first exposed to photography and learned his way around a dark room. Eric’s passion for photography was once again ignited at Tufts University in Boston, where he studied under Sigfried Halus.
After graduating, Eric moved to San Francisco, as an architectural photographer before moving to Los Angeles. Eric’s unique exposure to both urban and rural living can be seen throughout his work, as he is equally at home in both settings. Whether working in black and white or vibrant colors, his urban cityscapes and rural landscapes often reflect an eerie sense of peace and quiet, rarely portraying more than one or two people.
Eric’s photography has been exhibited in galleries in Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, Minnesota and viewed digitally around the world, receiving numerous awards.

6th Place – Overall - Marek Krumpár - "Freedom in the Heart”
Marek Krumpár is a Czech visual artist. He was born in Prague, where he lives and works. Although he is currently inclined to Impressionism, he has tried a number of different techniques and styles over the course of his creative career. He transitioned from classical brush painting to painting with a pallet knife on black canvas. When choosing a theme, light and shadows are most important to him. The paintings of Marek Krumpár have been sold to private collections around the world. You will find his work in countries such as the US, France, Italy, Great Britain, Germany, Belgium, and Croatia.
This is what Marek Krumpár says about his work: “Painting has taught me to stop every now and then to notice the moment and the ephemeral beauty that is all around us, which we often do not perceive at all in today's hectic world. It is these ephemeral moments that I try to capture in my paintings."

7th Place – Overall - F. M. Kearney - "East Meets West”
F.M. Kearney’s interest in photography began many years ago when his mother bought him his first camera – a Kodak Keystone 126 Instamatic (which he still owns today). Early subject matter included everything from his pet cat Dexter to various buildings and street scenes around his hometown of New York City. As he got older and his equipment got better, his interests shifted to photographing nature. He took great pleasure in capturing the colorful, natural world through his lens and enhancing it with special effect filters. His professional career began as a freelance photojournalist for a number of local newspapers, but he eventually reverted to nature, reasoning, “You can only get so creative when shooting the news.”
His creativity – as well as his passion for bright, vivid colors – is evident in much of his floral work. Some of these photographs are the products of a compilation of as many as six or seven different techniques he has learned over the years. These techniques range from using a simple black cloth in order to help the subject stand out better; to a complex double or triple exposure to produce soft, romantic glows around the image. He recently created a new collection of images that are truly unique. Through imaging software, and a considerable amount of artistic flair, these images straddle the line between photography and Impressionist painting. The final touches are added dewdrops, which produce an almost 3-D appearance.
Although the natural world may always take precedence, his interest in urban landscapes never wavered. Living in a city with some of the most iconic subjects in the world has given him virtually unlimited opportunity to capture amazing cityscapes under the best possible lighting conditions – with twilight being his favorite time of the day to shoot. The transition of natural light gradually fading from the sky as artificial lights begin to shine can transform a gritty street scene into something special. The strategic inclusion of traffic light trails provides the final touch for a truly magical wonderland.
This competition is right in his wheelhouse. Through special effects and image compilations, he captures some of the more unique and obscure views of New York City – off-the-beaten-path views, which most tourists never get to see. Kearney’s work has been exhibited in galleries in Montreal and New York, as well as a fine art museum in Florida.
He has been published in numerous books and magazines, and is currently a member of NANPA (The North American Nature Photography Association) and a regular contributor to their monthly blog.

8th Place – Overall - Martina Krupičková – “I.P. Pavlova”
Martina Krupičková was born in the Czech town of Světlá nad Sázavou, which is approximately 100 km from Prague, Czech Republic. In 1990, one year after the Velvet Revolution, Martina commenced Fashion Design and Textile studies at a prestige school in Brno. These studies, lasting four years, improved her design, drawing and painting skills. However, it would be some time before these would be put into practice as the world was opening up to Czechs, who could now travel abroad relatively easily.
In 1995, Martina travelled to London, working as an au pair and spending her leisure time sketching subjects in St. James’s Park. In 1998, she spent six months traveling in the United States meeting people who made her realize anything was possible. In 1999, Martina returned to Prague and started to paint oil on a black canvas using a palette knife. Martina has since had 28 exhibitions, including works in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Art Tentation Monaco and the Edinburgh Art Fair.
Martina was one of 48 competitors chosen to appear in the UK Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year 2018 TV series. Martina has received several awards and started to cooperate with the most important Czech auction houses and galleries in both France and the Czech Republic.

9th Place – Overall - Lawrence Hamilton - "Fisher”
The photography of Lawrence Hamilton examines everyday reality from a slightly different perspective. Not content with simply taking photographs of beautiful things, Lawrence personally finds photography more challenging and rewarding by transforming the ordinary or overlooked into unique, graphic and somewhat abstract compositions. Although self-taught, his over 40-year career in architecture provided a solid foundation for achieving form, composition and balance within each image. His photographs strive to reduce each scene to its simplest form by eliminating distracting elements while providing a strong emphasis on the basic aspects of light and shadow. For Lawrence, photography is a continual process of learning to view the world around him in an entirely different and exciting way. Through his images, he strives to introduce people to a new and unique way of viewing their everyday world – one that they may have never considered or noticed in the past.

10th Place – Overall - Jeffrey Friedkin - "NYC Flying Saucer”
Jeffrey Friedkin is a fine art and street photographer, specializing in capturing the energy, vibrancy and isolation of New York City. Jeffrey is a juried photography member of the prestigious Salmagundi Art Club in NYC. He is the Chairman of the Public Relations Committee and serves on the Salmagundi Board and Photography Committee.
A multiple award-winning photographer, Jeffrey has widely exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the tristate area in addition to a large international online presence. His work has been featured in various magazines/news sites and is held in private collections and clubs. A series of his photographs have recently been acquired by the Yuko Nii permanent collection at the Williamsburg Art and Historical Center in Brooklyn, NY.
Jeffrey Friedkin’s photography employs a synthesis of the artistic eye and technology. His work focuses on New York life: the streets, people, architecture and nature. The lush rural landscapes and sparkling seascapes of the Hudson River Valley region equally inspire him. His images tell these stories.
