Imma is a Barcelona-born fine art photographer currently based in Metuchen New Jersey.  Imma will be promoted by the gallery with an extensive public relations campaign, provided by Kjprnews.com. Artsy.net averages 2 million visitors a month and 46% of Artsy users who have purchased art via Artsy started out as art enthusiasts rather than preexisting collectors.

Imma will also be featured on the gallery’s YouTube Channel and with an event postcard.

The “Solo Art Series” is a series of monthly solo art exhibitions for established artists who have a body of work to present to the public.  Artist participants were asked to submit the following 3 components for the “Solo Art Series” competition; 1.  Their art.  2.  Their artist biography.  3.  Their artist statement.  These elements were evaluated and judged, which resulted in the selection of the artists who will be featured in individual month-long solo art exhibitions.  This was the seventh “Solo Art Series” Art Competition the gallery has conducted.

Below is Imma’s Artist Biography, her Artist Statement, along with 20 of her landscape and cityscape images.  We hope that you will take the time to read Imma’s information and to take a look at her incredible photography.

Artist Biography:

Imma is a Barcelona-born fine art photographer currently based in Metuchen New Jersey. She fell in love with photography when she got her first camera when she turned 8 and photography has always been an integral part of her life together with her passion to explore the world.

After completing her Biology degree in Barcelona, she moved to Switzerland and later to the US to pursue her scientific career. Photography was one of the tools she used to collect data for her research and her camera was with her wherever she went. In late 2015, she embarked in a career change and followed her passion for this form of art and joined the New York Institute of Photography to hone her skills and vision.

Imma identifies herself both as a scientist and an artist combining the analytical skills and scientific curiosity, her love of nature and the world around her, with the artistic sense of beauty and storytelling of photography.

She has won several awards for her fine art photography including several competitions organized by the Light, Space & Time Online Art Gallery. Her work has also been featured by Your Daily Photograph (September 2nd, 2017) - Duncan Miller Gallery, Santa Monica, CA. In addition, Imma has also won the Third Place Award in the January 2017 Professional Photographer’s Association of New Jersey, Juried Digital Image Competition, the 2016 First Place Award given by the Edison Arts Society at the Arts on Amboy event in Edison NJ, and the 2016 People’s Choice first place award at the Junebug Art Fest Window Gallery Competition in Metuchen NJ. Moreover, she has had her photography displayed in several group and juried shows throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania including some solo exhibits of her work “Magical Hours: From Dusk to Dawn” at Hopewell Valley Vineyards in Pennington NJ, Small World Coffee in Princeton, NJ and at the Public Library in Whippanong, NJ

Imma has travelled extensively and loves to capture the magic and colors of wildlife and nature, the mystery and mysticism of a landscape, from sunset to sunrise, using longer exposures and a variety of filters. She has been inspired by many photographers including Ansel Adams, Arthur Morris, Art Wolf, painters like Georgia O’Keeffe and by scientists like Carl Sagan, Jacques Cousteau, David Attenborough among others. In addition, she likes to collaborate with her peers in New Jersey and therefore runs a photography Meetup and a Facebook group.

Imma’s goals are bringing the art of photography to the public, creating compelling images that appeal to her own sense of beauty and aesthetics and to inspire in others a desire to explore the world and appreciate and value nature. Therefore, she has offered a series of free educational lectures at the public library in her town, run summer camps introducing the art of photography to kids and offer various technical workshops.

Artist Statement:

Since I was a child, I have been fascinated by nature and its beauty: the colors, the shapes and the textures, the harmonious, the peaceful and the dramatic, the big living creatures and the tiny microscopic organisms. I grew up watching several TV programs filmed by scientists like Jacques Cousteau, Carl Sagan and David Attenborough among many. I wanted to be like them and find ways to share that beauty with everybody.

Since its invention in 1839, photography has served as a medium for documenting, understanding, and interpreting the world. Photography is the perfect tool for doing exactly what I am passionate about, capturing the beauty in our planet. I got my first camera when I was eight years old and as soon as I was able to make a steady income (a long, long while afterwards) bought my first SLR.

I love to explore, experience new things, getting lost but, at the same time, being in touch with my surroundings. I like to observe wildlife in its environment too. In my photography, I love capturing all form of nature, including also the magic and colors, the mystery and mysticism of any landscape (or cityscape), from sunset to sunrise, using longer exposures and a variety of filters. The world looks different during these hours and with a camera it is possible to see details not so distinguishable with the naked eye. The camera allows us to see our dark surroundings in all its wonderful colors in a vastly different way than our eyes are able to perceive it. Taking a photograph during this time requires a different level of sophistication from the photographer too, specialized gear and certainly a tripod, more planning and exposure calculations, and more caffeine too!

These photographs are a selection taken from remote dark areas to vibrant cosmopolitan spaces, from local places to exotic locations, closed-up images to wide-angle views, nature and man-made, all taken from the moment the sun starts to set until it raises again.
