Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery is very happy to announce that Jo Beer has been named as the Gallery’s new featured artist and she will now be promoted by the gallery for the next 14 days in the gallery’s Artist Showcase.
Jo was selected as 1 of the top twelve finalists of the gallery’s recent Solo Art Exhibition Series #5. The placement in this competition qualified her art to be showcased in this feature. Below are Jo's Artist Biography, Artist Statement and 5 images that were submitted to this competition.
Artist Biography:
Jo Beer is a figurative painter who is based in Cornwall, UK.
After training under the guidance of Newlyn Art Movement artist Vincent Wilson, her work has been self-developed.
Jo has exhibited extensively in the UK and has twice been a finalist in Sky Art's Portrait Artist of the Year. Her image from the first series was chosen to be printed over and over to produce a huge image of Mona Lisa, this was an art installation that remained in situ for many months on Clapham Common, London.
Artist Statement:
In 2014 I had a solo show with the theme of adornment, a collection of works in which peoples' adornments illustrated their culture, style, status, achievement, occupation, belief. The focus was on their clothing, or something that they add to themselves to display the subject matter.
So, for my recent solo show, (Aug - Dec 2016 TRP Gallery, Devon, UK)I thought I would turn that on it's head and strip everything bare.
The human form is a wonderful thing, regardless of age, shape, colour or size, flesh is beautiful. 'Fleshy' was a celebration of that, from head to toe, some pieces conventional portrait, some pieces with a more abstract viewpoint, mostly paintings, some charcoals.
My choice of medium is always oil... I love the silky fluidity, the wonderful smells that the process creates.
I hope that you enjoy this homage to the skin that we are in.
