Artist Biography:

Julia is a digital artist and photographer who has worked in the photography industry for many years. She started in the film days and progressed to digital. She is a also a photography coach and critic. She held this position with Digital Photo Secrets for over 4 years.

She joined Photoshop Artistry and then the Awake Program and is now a member of Kaizen and it is through this that she has discovered her love of digital art.  Her motto is: "Healing Art - bringing the outdoors in"

She has learnt that photography and digital art can be very healing and a lot of people don't have the access to beautiful scenery as she does, so she wants to bring it to them no matter what environment they live in. She donates her work to hospitals to help brighten the lives, lift the spirits and help heal those who are either patients or visitors.

She loves that she can express feelings and emotions through her digital artistry work while also still capturing purely photographic images for those who prefer that.

Julia suffered a double tragedy in 2016/17 with her house being burnt to the ground and losing all her possessions followed by the death of her husband 4 months later. She found that one of the things that helped her through this was being able to express herself through her digital art.

Artist Statement:

Digital art has provided me with a unique vehicle to express feelings and emotions and to open the door for others to feel heard and validated when they resonate with an image I have created.

It allows me to share with you the feeling that I had when I visited a place or how I was feeling at the time I created the artwork.

I have suffered a great deal of personal tragedy and a lot of my art has come about as I have worked through these things.

I create the images by taking photos and then combining them using different layers and blending modes to create the final image. Some images have well over 100 layers.

This art is a way that I can reach out and connect with people, all suffering and joy is universal in that we all pass through the different phases of life and I hope that what I am feeling also resonates with what you are feeling or have felt.

Julia has won numerous contests and been featured in a number of publications. Her website is http://www.juliaharwood.com  and she also has an Artboja store at https://artboja.com/art/s6w7af/
