Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery is very pleased to announce that Kathryn Hansen has been selected as one of the four artists of the gallery’s sixth “Solo Art Series” Art Competition. Kathryn will now have a month long solo art exhibition and she will be featured on the gallery’s front page, in the Gallery’s YouTube Channel, as well as in the “Solo Art Series” archive.
Kathryn Hansen is a wildlife drawing artist based in California. Kathryn will be promoted by the gallery with an extensive public relations campaign, provided by Kjprnews.com. They will promote and circulate her winning press release to over 1000+ News Outlets, Premium FOX, CBS, NBC, CW Affiliated Sites, 500 TV & Radio Sites, 250 Regional & Industry Site through Kjprnews.com and through LST gallery’s broad social media network.
In addition, as part of her award package, she will now be featured as an Artsy.net Light Space & Time promoted artist. The LST Artsy.net page will feature 4 pieces of the artist’s art, a small artist statement and their website URL’s as part of the gallery’s overall prize package.

The “Solo Art Series” is a series of monthly solo art exhibitions for established artists who have a body of work to present to the public. Artist participants were asked to submit the following 3 components for the “Solo Art Series” competition; 1. Their art. 2. Their artist biography. 3. Their artist statement. These elements were evaluated and judged, which resulted in the selection of the artists who will be featured in individual month long solo art exhibitions. This is the sixth “Solo Art Series” Art Competition the gallery has conducted.

Artist Biography:
Kathryn Hansen grew up in rural Wisconsin in the 60's, which was a fantastic time to be an imaginative child! Her intense love of animals and art started at a very young age when she painted a ginormous brown owl in second grade, which proudly hung in the schools small library. Her family’s love of animals gave her the opportunity to have her own pets: hamsters, hermit crabs and assorted fish, so her bedroom resembled a pet shop more than a place to sleep!
Kathryn earned her BFA from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point and went on to study illustration at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. After graduation her urban watercolors hung at one of the top galleries at that time, Posner Gallery in Milwaukee, as well as earning awards and commissions through the Wisconsin Percentage for the Arts Program.
In 1998 she moved to Southern California with her two small children, golden retriever and guinea pig and settled into the beautiful foothills north of Los Angeles and started up her art once again. But her relationship with her art and animals really took off after a 2 week safari to Kenya with her siblings in 2010. That amazing experience evolved her art into what you see today, highly detailed wildlife portraits in graphite and colored pencil of elephants, lions, zebras, egrets, owls and more.
Artist Statement:
It's been a very natural journey for me to blend my love and devotion of animals and nature with my passion for art. They have been powerful forces in my life since childhood and a never ending source of inspiration in my art.
The foundation of my work is in capturing the essence and soul of the animals I draws. The rendering of the eyes, their intensity and beauty are an integral facet of my work. I feel that this is best expressed through the simplicity of the pencil, using high contrast and textural variations to achieve a richness and depth to each drawing and providing a level of complexity whereby I can artistically capture the animals’ spirit.
Through my inspired likeness of wildlife, I hope to encourage awareness of conservation efforts necessary to protect the animals on our planet. To inspire the viewer to realize their connection to all living things, to have positive impact on this planet and to become part of the conservation movement so that we can preserve the exquisite complexity of our earth for years to come!
