Artist Statement
Petro Castles: Off-Shore Oil Rigs of the North Sea Before our Covid-19 realities truly set in, I created a series of abstract paintings that focus on the off-shore oil rigs of the North Sea. I was at a time in my life where I was searching for strength and prosperity to work through the realities of unemployment and instability. Using thick bold Shodo-like paint strokes, the abstract representations of the offshore oil rigs stand rigid yet off-balanced; illustrating not only my desire to stay strong while grappling with my feelings of financial insecurity but also the uncertain realities of our times today. Who knew this series would become a precursor to where we are now.
