The Overall Winning Artists Category consists of the 10 Best Entries received from the 3 media categories of the Painting & Other Category,  Photography & Digital Category and the 3 Dimensional Art Category.

The winning artists will now be featured on the Light Space & Time website for the month of September 2017 and thereafter, the artworks and links to the artist’s websites will remain online in the Light Space & Time Archives.

The overall winning artists’ category of the "Open" Art Exhibition will receive extensive worldwide publicity by having their winning art presented on Artsy.net. The LST Artsy.net page will feature the artist’s art, an excerpt of their artist's statement and their website URL’s as part of the gallery’s overall prize package.

In addition, the winning artists will also receive extensive worldwide publicity in the form of email marketing, 1000+ press release announcements, event announcement posts and social media marketing. 

Winning artists will also have their art exhibition results posted and promoted on Artweek.com. Artweek produces 800,000-page impressions per month, 280,000 website visitors per month and has 30,000 newsletter subscribers.

1st Place - Christopher Lane - "Koi"

Religion, politics and human conflict are all important themes in Christopher Lane’s body of work. His images evoke moods and memories inspired by real life, and which cause a remarkably compelling narrative. He is always looking for new visual symbols to reflect an emotion or ideal.

Christopher Lane was born in 1968 in Minnesota. He was inspired at an early age by regional artists such as Thomas Hart Benton, Andy Warhol, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Roy Lichtenstein. His early teenage years were spent living in Cairo, Egypt. Here is work was influenced by the great architecture, sculpture, use of symbolism, hieroglyphs and the expressive colors used in their paintings.

During this time period, Christopher discovered he had dyslexia and furthered his education at the GOW School in South Wales, New York. It was here that Christopher received encouragement and guidance from Fine Arts teacher Bill Parsons. Upon leaving the GOW School, Christopher spent a year living in Paris, France which fueled his creative instincts further.

Christopher returned to the States and pursued his art degree at Eastern New Mexico University. Christopher has now made his home in South Carolina where he continues to use fantastic imagery to turn his life experiences into visual stories such as you will find here. He is inspired by surrealist artist Salvador Dali and Hieronymus Bosch.

Christopher’s work has been shown in galleries in both Columbia and Charleston, South Carolina and is currently featured in the Blessed Valley group exhibition through Tootsie Fine Art & Design in New South Wales, Australia.  His website:  www.laneartworks.com

2nd Place - Lou Ann Goodrich - "Tiger Splash"

A lifelong resident of the Pacific Northwest, Lou Ann Goodrich currently resides in Oregon where she maintains forested acreage preserved for wildlife.

She is a proponent of a balanced environment and habitat conducive to maintaining diversity and sustainability for wildlife and the natural world. Animals have always been a large part of her life and after retiring from a career in medicine she pursued photography to record and express the beauty of nature.

Now a passionate nature and wildlife photographer, she particularly strives to portray species-specific behavior in her images. Recently she has diversified and added digital photo artistry to her skills which allows an additional creativity and artistic presentation of her images. 3rd Place - Thomas McRee - "Uplifted Shimmer"

Mother Nature instills exciting and incredibly complex dynamics in her creations. In the name of her spirit - he seeks to expose and emphasize the aspects of life that shape each piece of salvaged wood throughout its existence as a living tree. 

Each project is a matter of discovery as the wood is refined and its hidden characteristics are revealed. The wood determines the specific form, he merely interprets the map that has been placed before him.

Although he does not have the traditional background of the majority of artists in today’s world – his astounding work is that of a well-established professional. 

He was born in 1991 in the city of Austin Texas, Wagner grew up on a ranch in Niederwald, Texas. Throughout his childhood, he practiced various forms of craftsmanship. At the age of fifteen, he took summer work welding structures for a construction company. At seventeen, he obtained his 6G pipe welding certification. 

A resolute individual, he began his college career immediately following high school graduation. During his initial week of lectures, he was diagnosed with epilepsy. He continued his enrollment for two years suffering from uncontrolled epilepsy.

The unyielding onslaught of seizures and lack of alternatives ultimately drove him to elect brain surgery.  The operation was a failure. Six months later, during a bout of acute depression, a new medication was found that finally broke the indomitable grasp epilepsy had on his life. 

For three years, he devoted himself to the nuclear engineering program at A&M. During a semester break, he reconnected with the wonders of craftsmanship and labor that had sculpted his life prior to college. He realized he must make a change.

The rest is history... 

In retrospect, the high-stress environment and lack of sleep that college demanded was a dominant factor in the frequency and severity of his epileptic attacks. 4th Place - Patrick Lyne - "Figure Study I"

Patrick is trained as a classical iconographer, which is why he has begun to incorporate religious figures/individuals in power into his work using many techniques that he has learned as an iconographer.

The most notable technique that he has begun to use is gilding (incorporating gold leaf into the work). He also takes after many of the great artists of the past from many different eras: Bacon, Basquiat, Cimabue, & Giotto to name a few.

He believes that combining classical techniques with powerful, abstracted imagery has really given his work a unique new look & he is only going to continue to push that look even further moving forward. His website is www.patricktlyne.com

5th Place - William Nourse - "The Wild Coast"

Will Nourse is a landscape photographer known for his use of color and texture to bring his outdoor experiences to life.

Will has been an avid photographer for almost twenty years, and his work reflects a lifetime of hiking, backpacking, climbing, skiing, and sailing, all of which have given him a deep appreciation for the wonders of the natural world.

He exhibits in juried shows at the Cambridge Art Association, the Newburyport Art Association, and various online galleries. Recently, his image ‘Seljalandsfoss #2’ was selected as Best in Show for Photography in the NAA’s 20th Annual Regional Juried Show (2017) and his photo ‘Vestrahorn #1’ won the Newburyport Development Award for Work in Photography in the NAA’s 2016 Fall Member’s Juried Show Part II.

6th Place - Anzhelika Atlantova - "Dense Juices. Cool"

Angelica Atlantova was born in southern Russia, but she now lives and works in Moscow. She graduated from art school and the Institute of Applied Art, Design and Fashion.

Upon graduation, Angelica started a project to customize garments and accessories. She first started by painting handbags and shoes.

In six years, has created about a thousand of the original author's products. As Angelica released silk scarves of her own design and she then experimented with textiles for interior design.

She works with empty surfaces whether they are small areas on an accessory, wall or the floor of a large space. 7th Place - Peter Alessandria - "Night Life"

Peter was born and raised in New York City and Long Island. After attending law school, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as an entertainment attorney. Today he is an award-winning, fine art, portrait and commercial photographer based in the New York City area.

Peter spent the first part of his work life as an entertainment and intellectual property attorney in Los Angeles. Working in the film and television industries sparked his own interest in creativity and in the early 2000’s he began experimenting with digital video and became an amateur filmmaker. But it wasn't until he picked up a still camera for the first time in 2002, that his full creative passion for image-making came into being.

Like many people, things changed dramatically for Peter in 2008. That year, as a result of the Global Financial Crisis, he lost his law practice. In the days and weeks that followed he struggled with the question of what to do with the rest of his life. It was only after much deliberation that he decided to follow his passion for photography, and in late 2009, he began pursuing photography full-time.

As a fine art photographer, Peter has created numerous collections of landscape, seascape, cityscape and still life images. His work has been featured in dozens of solo and group photography and art exhibitions. He has won fifty-two (52) awards in the past few years and his photos have been published nationally and internationally, as well as being shown on television and in feature films. He has been the subject of several newspaper, radio, Internet and television interviews.

Peter finds inspiration mostly in the work of other photographers - and not necessarily the famous ones. Rather, it is his peers, many of whom he connects with on social media, that inspire Peter to go out and try new things or shoot in new locations. This connecting with others has helped fuel his creativity greatly over the last several years.

As both a photographer and filmmaker Peter’s intent is simple: create compelling images that appeal to his own sense of beauty and aesthetics. His goal is to use his art - and his life - to inspire others. He shares his photos in the hopes of touching people’s hearts and minds in positive and uplifting ways.

8th Place - John Guiseppi – “Anhinga Love Knot"

John Guiseppi is an artist and wildlife/nature photographer. John recently retired after 27 years in the electric power generation industry.  John is now able to spend more time on his art and photography work.

John grew up in Mount Vernon, Ohio and moved to Central Florida in the late 1970’s after several years in the United States Marine Corps.

He received his Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Degree from the University of South Florida. He is married and has two adult children and two fur kids.

John belongs to and is active members of the following associations; Pencil Art Society, Colored Pencil Society of America, Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, Tampa Regional Artists, Brandon League of Fine Arts, Bartow Art Guild, and the Lakeland Art Guild.  His website is www.facebook.com/guiseppi-art-in-nature 

9th Place - Linda Austin - "22"

Linda Austin’s art began with sewing, rug hooking, and painting pottery. Later Linda melted crayons to paint semi-abstract mountains, flowers, trees, snow, and rivers. For a while, she painted with acrylics and watercolors until asthma let her know it was time to retire the paints, brushes, and canvas. Undeterred, Linda captured landscapes, people, and animals with her camera.

Linda grew up in Atlanta, Georgia USA, but, she was always a hermit at heart. She spent many years living in a house in Maine built in the 1700s, located on a dead-end dirt road that forked off a dead end road, surrounded by rolling hills and trees, 4 dogs and a cat. Linda took her camera on car and bike rides with her husband, Bruce. She would lie down on the ground to capture a specific angle, stand too close to the edge to look into a ravine. She loves exploring the quiet, the unusual, and, the overlooked.

Linda is fascinated with technology which she mastered on her own. She used a computer to create collage poetry. She enjoyed the building blocks of phrases and sound as much as the unusual scenes that could be created with disparate words. It was a natural progression from collage poetry to digital art.

Linda’s art is not constrained to one genre. She creates abstracts to portraits. Linda worked with international photographer Gabriel Olude to create her Gabriel Collaboration – a series of portraits of beautiful women. She also enjoys collage work and the surreal. She does not want her work to look like that of another artist.

Linda feels that the name of a piece is as important as the art itself. Her titles come from various languages, names of spiders, snakes or words spelled backward. She strives to create a mood without telling the viewer how to feel or look at a piece.

Linda combines digital papers, photos, and digital paint to create her art. She no longer plans her work since she discovered that just sitting down & adding things to her digital canvas allows her subconscious to speak. She says, “It’s as if I’m not creating, someone else is.” Her goal is to create images that people can’t stop looking at.

Linda believes that she paints herself over and over. “I paint my thoughts and fears and the unknown. In doing so I find out more about me.” Recently diagnosed with cancer Linda continues to discover more about herself.

When viewing her art, Cathrine Blan, a fellow artist, stated, “Linda has an ineradicable talent for seeing something amazing in something simple.” Linda likes pastel colors but it is usually dark deep rich tones that mark her work.

10th Place - Stephen Way - "Stop The Killing"

Steve lives in Bondi with the beautiful Karen and has 2 grown children. He is a registered Physiotherapist and has a wide range of clinical experience.

In mid-career, Steve took up life drawing (thinking that knowing anatomy would help)… and it did to some extent, however, Steve learned that LD (life drawing) is 'the foundation of art'. He decided to further pursue art and considers himself very fortunate to attend the NAS in 'Darlo' during the years 1993 through 1995). 

In that final year Steve's proposal for a 2m square painting for a major redevelopment project in Darling Harbour, his work was selected in an open competition ($5k prize) among fellow students. During the process, Steve was asked to do a second work, a photo of which appeared in the SMH. The commissions were a major surprise and stimulus for him to continue with his endeavors.

Steve did continue for a short while but family and work commitments prevailed. He states “that I have no regrets there” - Steve can be reached at sway@bigpond.net.au
