The Overall Winning Artists Category consists of the 10 Best Entries received from the 3 media categories of the Painting & Other Category, Photography & Digital Category and the 3 Dimensional Art Category. 

The winning artists will now be featured on the Light Space & Time website for the month of December 2017 and thereafter, the artworks and links to the artist’s websites will remain online in the Light Space & Time Archives.

The overall winning artists’ category of the "Patterns" Art Exhibition will receive extensive worldwide publicity by having their winning art presented on Artsy.net. The LST Artsy.net page will feature the artist’s art, an excerpt of their artist's statement and their website URL’s as part of the gallery’s overall prize package.

In addition, the winning artists will also receive extensive worldwide publicity in the form of email marketing, 1000+ press release announcements, event announcement posts and social media marketing. 

Winning artists will also have their art exhibition results posted and promoted on Artweek.com. Artweek produces 800,000-page impressions per month, 280,000 website visitors per month and has 30,000 newsletter subscribers.

1st Place - William Nourse - "Terra

Will Nourse is a landscape photographer known for his use of color and texture to bring his outdoor experiences to life.

He has been an avid photographer for almost twenty years, and his work reflects a lifetime of hiking, backpacking, climbing, skiing, and sailing, all of which have given him a deep appreciation for the wonders of the natural world.

He held his first solo exhibition, entitled 'Moods and Motion: Exploring the Icelandic Landscape' at the Newburyport Art Association in July 2017.

He has exhibited in juried shows at the Cambridge Art Association, the Newburyport Art Association (NAA), 1650 Gallery in Los Angeles, CA and various online galleries. Recently, he exhibited in the Cambridge Art Association’s National Prize Show (2017), his image ‘Seljalandsfoss #2’ was selected as Best in Show for Photography in the NAA’s 20th Annual Regional Juried Show (2017) and his photo ‘Vestrahorn #1’ won the Newburyport Development Award for Work in Photography in the NAA’s 2016 Fall Member’s Juried Show Part II.

2nd Place - Mary Ellen Prewedo - "Crossroads"

Think layers upon layers of color, messy texture (is that a word?) color. Paint that is partially set up and drying and then cut into with a scrubby brush or other tools to create the texture that invites you to reach out and touch. Color and texture inspire me and creates a passion that I want to share with the viewer! 

I have created all my life in one way or another and am self-taught in all my endeavors. Studying artists that I admire is a much more productive way of learning for me. I create with acrylic paints, impasto, and other mixed media material. I mingle the mixed media and paint to create gooey, thick paint that translates into the deep textures in my abstracts. It’s exciting to see the colors that emerge when placed on top of each other. I begin a painting with an idea in mind, but usually, the painting takes on its own life and shows me the direction it wants to go. 

I am inspired by weathered and worn wood, old billboards and rusted equipment. Rust and verdigris patina is fascinating and beautiful and I try to recreate that in my abstract paintings. The many layers of colors on weathered wood seems more beautiful to me than new, freshly painted wood. In the layers of the worn paint, I imagine layers of life experiences, mingled together to form someone’s past and present that will also shape their future. 3rd Place - Sharon Bartel Clements - "Ancient Warrior #24 (back)"

Sharon Bartel Clements is an established artist; working and painting mixed media and sculpture, who has exhibited nationally and internationally. She is also a former art teacher who taught for 8 years in the Lewiston Porter school system in Lewiston, NY. She now works full time at her studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Presently, Sharon is working on her Ancient Warrior Torso project and a book of the women's stories. Using live models as her subject matter is part of her project. She's also worked with sculptural objects of various mixed mediums, and real objects. Painting has also been a focus of her artwork, using oil paint.

Sharon pursued her early art making dreams, creating paintings, sculptures, an installation, prints, and works on paper. She is a world traveler who has seen first-hand the interaction and celebration of nature with numerous different cultures.

Sharon’s interest in sewing patterns is a consistent theme through her work. At one time in her life, she sewed all her clothes. Always seeking to combine color, movement, and texture, Sharon’s main goal is to project a sense of communing while transforming materials into sculptural representations, installations and paintings. At the same time, she incorporates more abstract and contemporary themes into her art.

Sharon has an ongoing presence on the Brooklyn Museum, Elizabeth Sackler, and Feminist Art Base since March 2014. Other prestigious museums include Albright Knox, Buffalo, NY, Burchfield Penny, Buffalo, NY, and Southwest MN State University Art Museum in Marshall, MN.

She recently was part of Art Comes Alive (ACA) 2017, and Art Design Consultants (ADC) 25th Anniversary, which were two group shows held at the ADC Gallery, in Cincinnati, OH. She has also been a part of the 2017 Site: Brooklyn group show, at the International Juried Art Exhibition NYC, in Brooklyn, NY. Also, in 2017 she was in a group exhibit at the “Shelter” Exhibition at the Harlem School of the Arts, in NY, with the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA) in cooperation with Violence Transformed. In 2016, Sharon exhibited in Art Santa Fe, in Santa Fe, NM.

In the past, she was selected as one of the “101 Super Hot Artists for 2015” by Michael Corbin, author, art critic, and publisher of the Art Book Guy. Mr. Corbin published her interview, “Sharon Bartel Clements: Evolution and Transformation”, on February 1, 2015. Also, Sharon was a featured artist on Art Specifier and her interview is publicized on ArtSpecifier.com. She has been featured as artist of the month on Artshow.com, the online gallery.

She has shown 13 solo exhibitions including; “Bartel Clements Recent Paintings”, at the William Whipple Gallery, at Southwest MN State University Art Museum, in Marshall, MN; and at Gallery 705 in Stroudsburg, PA. Previously, Sharon had the opportunity to exhibit at the very prestigious institution, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, in Buffalo, NY, in the Collector’s Gallery, where her show “Abstract Works by Sharon Bartel Clements” was displayed.

Sharon Bartel Clements has had more than 27 group exhibitions, including “The Artist Among Us” exhibition, and “Artist Invitational Auction” at a gala at the Burchfield Penney Art Center in Buffalo, NY. Previously her art was included in the “Point of View” exhibit, at the Poughkeepsie Art Museum, a well-known museum, in Poughkeepsie, NY. 4th Place - Catherine Pickop - "Rhythm"

Catherine Pickop was born in Hong Kong in 1983. Having brought up in an autocratic and conservative family, she has been constantly feeling insufficient and anxious throughout her life. She graduates from Business studies and hotel management and working hard for money for ten years.

The life of chasing money confuses her even more, she decided to give up her career and concentrate on seeking the meaning of life, freedom, and companionship. Art is the only substantive way for her to communicate with herself. Throughout the last 3 years of studying in Fine Art offered by Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, she finds that life has another meaning for her.

Catherine especially interested in how art can help to express inner emotions and rationalize inner thoughts. She started using coffee residue as a personal material in art making through a stream of consciousness as a tool to study herself. Catherine’s works are a visual reflection of her mind, the process of art-making is described how she sees the world, reconstructed than reappearing on paper in minimal abstract form. 5th Place - Gary Wiesner - "Cubic"

A hobbyist in the pre-digital days of the early 90s, fine art photographer Gary Wiesner started out taking snaps of the usual suspects: vacations, family events, and holidays –and quickly realized he had the knack for capturing unique perspectives.

With an eye for detail, the exhilarating, exacting quality of Wiesner’s images reveal an engineering background; the measured and precise hand of a tool-and-die maker creates symmetry and precision out of details heretofore unnoticed

A self-taught artist who credits a line of exceptional mentors in honing his profession and craft, Gary has been actively involved in a number of juried art exhibitions, taking prizes for his work in city, landscapes and artistic reflections.

6th Place - Rita Shapiro - "Red Mosaic II" 

Rita Shapiro was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 1, 1934, and resided in Philadelphia for forty-eight years.  Ten years ago she made West Palm Beach, Florida, her permanent home. She received both Bachelor of Science and Master of Education from Temple University and studied painting at Pratt Institute and The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.

Her work can be found in numerous private and corporate collections. Among the most notable are E.I. DuPont, SAP America, Measuring & Monitoring, Inc., General Instrument Corp., Federal Reserve Bank, Phila., GAP International, Access.Com, Northwestern Institute, and The University of Scranton. Patti LaBelle has included Rita's work in her private collection. In the year 2006 her work was installed at the Florida Law Offices of Fox Rothchild, Brandywine Realty Trust, Cira Center, Phila.,PA, The Vue at Lake Eola in Orlando and Scripps Florida. JFK Hospital and Morse Assisted Living have included her work.

7th Place - Danielle Austen - "Blue Star"

Marcel Proust wrote, "The real voyage of discovery consists not of seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes."

Danielle Austen is an award-winning fine art photographer specializing in intimate portraits of the environment. She received her BFA from Cornell University and worked as a graphic designer before attending the master’s program at the Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, in photojournalism.

Working for newspapers and magazines, her editorial work has been published locally, regionally and nationally, including “Life’s, The Year in Pictures.” Returning to her fine art roots, she has combined her skills and training and has participated in over four dozen national and international juried exhibits, two group shows and three solo exhibits. Her next solo exhibit, Echoing Cascades, will be at the Romano Gallery in Blairstown, NJ in January 2018.

She has attended six Artist-in-Residency programs; the Rocky Mountain National Park, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, twice at Acadia National Park, Everglades National Park and was a Fellowship recipient at the Vermont Studio Center.

8th Place - Ilona Benzel - "Rock Wall Waterfall"

Ilona Benzel earned a BA in art in 1980, from Notre Dame College, in Manchester, New Hampshire.  Ilona lost her passion for oil painting after losing her husband and three elderly dogs before moving to Florida in 2008.

Oil mixing and clean up were overwhelming. She was re-inspired finding acrylics at a yard sale. Even more exciting was an alcohol ink class she took in 2016 and now Ilona paints multi-media pieces.

Her work is described as loose, impressionistic, yet often representational.  Having discovered the challenge of alcohol inks she enjoys more freedom. Inks have a mind of their own at times and wonderful things happen.

There are many ways to envision the mysteries of life and her presentations reveal her vision and her new place in the world.  She went through an artistic metamorphous as her life changed. 9th Place - Charlann Meluso - "In or Out"

As a photo artist and photographer, Charlann Meluso engages in the use of digital technology in her daily routine as part of her photographic journey. She utilizes the latest technological advances to enhance and improve her images and fine-tune them to her liking.

Expanding Charlann’s portfolio, which contains an eclectic mix of street photography, abstract images and montages fuels the never-ending search for unusual, compelling and striking images to satisfy her passion for the art of photography.

In a world saturated with visual images, Charlann makes certain that her photographs and montages are unique, original and have a genuine interest to her. As she looks to her environment, she carefully chooses subject matter that begs to be photographed, whether serious, mundane, romantic or whimsical. She has become increasingly aware of her surroundings, looking to discover images of every day and unexpected sources.

The moment a photograph is born, the interpretation of the photographer’s world becomes visible. Charlann’s years of experience with photography have taught her that a great photograph may result after many hours of labor, or simply as a spontaneous occurrence. Some of her most memorable and emotion-evoking images were captured “in the moment” never able to be duplicated as it existed in that precise space and time. She taught Foundations of Art, Commercial Art, Crafts & Design and Computer Graphics in the Bayonne, NJ school system for 39 years until her retirement in June of 2014. As an independent Photographer and Photo Artist, she has been exhibiting her work throughout New Jersey for the past two decades. 10th Place - Marti White - "Final del Verano"

Marti White is a mixed media artist working in Tucson, Arizona. She works in both abstract and representational subject matter. Marti is mostly self-taught with the help of many artist mentors and workshops. She has always been interested in creative outlets, whether in the home or the studio or the classroom. Her work is eclectic and covers a broad spectrum of media and subject matter.

Marti enjoys working without a lot of preplanning, beginning with color and medium and letting her tools take her where they want to go. The result is a spontaneous expression of her inner self. Marti works in watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, and collage. Her work has evolved over the years and she tends to find working abstractly or at least less literally as time goes by.

Recently Marti has worked in series. Her series of Apertures has reached her goal of twenty pieces. These are intended to draw the viewer into the painting or collage so that they can find their own story beneath the surface of the work. Her other works include a series of Scarab Beetles and another of Dragonflies. Marti is easily bored with one approach to her work and loves to experiment with a variety of "what ifs." She is open to using new techniques to play with. These may include papers she has never used before, media that is new and interesting, new methods of preparing papers for collage work, experimenting with various types of transfer methods, acrylic inks, metallic and acrylic polymers. Marti teaches classes in collage in the community. She also volunteers her time in various arts-oriented organizations.

Marti is a signature member of the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild. She is a signature member of the Contemporary Artists of Southern Arizona which she served as president for two three-year terms. She is a signature member of The International Society of Acrylic Painters and a member of The Contemporary Art Society, an arm of The Tucson Museum of Art.

In addition, Marti is a member of the Arizona Watercolor Association, an associate of The Drawing Studio in Tucson and a member of PaperWorks: The Sonoran Collective for Paper and Book Artists.
