The Overall Winning Artists Category consists of the 10 Best Entries received from the 2 media categories of the Painting & Other Category and the Photography & Digital Category.
The winning artists will now be featured on the Light Space & Time website for the month of December 2018 and thereafter, the artworks and links to the artist’s websites will remain online in the Light Space & Time Archives.
The overall winning artists’ category of the "SeaScapes" Art Exhibition will receive extensive worldwide publicity and promotion. In addition, the overall winning artists will also receive extensive worldwide publicity in the form of email marketing, 550+ press release announcements, event announcement posts, and social media marketing.
Winning artists will also have their art exhibition results posted and promoted on ArtJobs/ArtWeek. Artweek/Artjobs produces 800,000-page impressions per month, 280,000 website visitors per month and has 30,000 newsletter subscribers.

1st Place - Laurie Hein - "Rhythm and Blues"
Laurie Snow Hein has been painting all her life. Like many young artists, she was doubtful that she could make a career of her passion. Laurie's parents had convinced her that it was impossible to make a living as an artist. It was in her DNA...both parents, a grandmother and a brother were artistic. Her father, a photographer, owned a photoshop, was the number one producer for Dexter Postcards from Maine to Key West.
After a year of college, Laurie married and began combining art with being a wife and busy mother. Then, at age 40 when her 6th child was born and her oldest was heading to college, Laurie's husband lost his job. Her talent as an artist was now needed as the source of the family's income. She began teaching classes and accepting portrait commissions. When Laurie's paintings were noticed by a national publisher, her successful career in art publishing and licensing was launched. She says, "I was blessed to be able to support and raise my family of six children solely on my art income."
Working 30 years as a professional artist, teaching, licensing, creating the illustrations for books, and doing art festivals around the country, Laurie now shows primarily in Florida concentrating her time on images of the state of Florida, it majestic skies, enchanting landscapes, and magnificent beaches. 2nd Place - Peter Alessandria - "Portland Head 3"
Peter was born and raised in New York City and Long Island. After attending law school, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as an entertainment attorney. Today he is an award-winning, fine art, portrait and commercial photographer based in the New York City area.
Peter spent the first part of his work life as an entertainment and intellectual property attorney in Los Angeles. Working in the film and television industries sparked his own interest in creativity and in the early 2000’s he began experimenting with digital video and became an amateur filmmaker. But it wasn't until he picked up a still camera for the first time in 2002 that his full creative passion for image-making came into being.
Like many people, things changed dramatically for Peter in 2008. That year, as a result of the Global Financial Crisis, he lost his law practice. In the days and weeks that followed he struggled with the question of what to do with the rest of his life. It was only after much deliberation that he decided to follow his passion for photography, and in late 2009, he began pursuing photography full-time.
As a fine art photographer, Peter has created numerous collections of landscape, seascape, cityscape and still life images. His work has been featured in dozens of solo and group photography and art exhibitions. He has won sixty-five (65) awards in the past few years and his photos have been published nationally and internationally, as well as being shown on television and in feature films. He has been the subject of several newspaper, radio, Internet and television interviews.
Peter finds inspiration mostly in the work of other photographers - and not necessarily the famous ones. Rather, it is his peers, many of whom he connects with on social media, that inspire Peter to go out and try new things or shoot in new locations. This connecting with others has helped fuel his creativity greatly over the last several years.
As both a photographer and filmmaker Peter’s intent is simple: create compelling images that appeal to his own sense of beauty and aesthetics. 3rd Place - Jerry Gadd - "Work Boat on the Chesapeake"
Jerry's current interests include not only the Mid-Atlantic Region but places and things from all over the United States, including landscapes, seascapes, portraits, florals, and still life. He works both in oils and watercolors. Jerry has recently renewed his interest in classical oil painting.
Jerry has participated in Maryland State and Federal duck stamp competitions winning awards and ribbons in painting, decoy carving, and photographic competitions throughout the Region. He had a painting published in The International Artist Magazine and was a finalist in their monthly competition, as seen below. He also had his work published in the South West Art Magazine in September and October 2016. September issue for emerging artist, and the October issue for Artist to collect. 4th Place - Christina Brunton - "Boat and Boat Masts"
Christina Brunton is a Sydney, Australia digital artist. Fifteen years ago Christina learned how to paint and later started photography as a way to capture images as a reference for her oil paintings, but work commitments made it hard to find the time to paint. The idea was to take photos of beautiful scenes she saw whilst traveling and later paint them when the time was available. Christina never went back to oil painting, as photography had taken over.
It wasn't until Christina learned to take photographs and made into works of art through digital artistry, that she was able to merge her passions of painting and photography.
My artistic work has been published in both online and international print magazines whilst my work is hanging on walls in Australia and overseas.

5th Place - Monique Carr - "On Cloud Nine"
Relentlessly curious, contemporary artist Monique Carr is driven by exploration. The work responds in unexpected ways, often in the influence of color choices but also in material and technique. She is not afraid to try new things. Monique's voice translates landscapes into a fusion of experience, experiment, and emotion. She enjoys painting en plein-air, while still preserving her unique vision of the scene.
Monique attempts to translate the landscape into a fusion of abstraction and reality with vibrant color, constant movement, and intriguing texture. “My intent is to transform a common scene into something new and stunning that will leave the viewer with feelings of surprise and joy.”
After growing up in Montreal, Canada and spending 10 years in the Cayman Islands, Monique and her husband made East Tennessee home in 1999. She worked as a graphic artist prior to becoming a full-time painter, studying under many well-known artists, including Guido Frick, Peggy Root, Betty Carr, David Dunlap, Kathy Odom, and Steven and Katherine Aimone. 6th Place - F.M. Kearney - "Dickenson Bay Cloudscape"
F.M. Kearney’s interest in photography began many years ago when his mother bought him his first camera – a Kodak Keystone 126 Instamatic (which he still owns today). Early subject matter included everything from his pet cat Dexter to various buildings and street scenes around his hometown of New York City. As he got older and his equipment got better, his interests shifted to photographing nature. He took great pleasure in capturing the colorful, natural world through his lens and enhancing it with special effect filters. His professional career began as a freelance photojournalist for a number of local newspapers, but he eventually reverted back to nature, reasoning, “You can only get so creative when shooting the news.”
His creativity – as well as his passion for bright, vivid colors – is clearly evident in much of his floral work. Some of these photographs are the products of a compilation of as many as six or seven different techniques he’s learned over the years. These techniques range from using a simple black cloth in order to help the subject stand out better; to a complex, double or triple exposure to produce soft, romantic glow around the image. He’s recently created a new collection of images that are truly unique. Through software, and a considerable amount of artistic flair, these images straddle the line between photography and Impressionist painting. The final touch is the dew drops, which take on an almost 3-D appearance.
Although the natural world may always take precedence, his interest in urban landscapes never wavered. Living in a city with some of the most iconic subjects in the world has given him virtually unlimited opportunity to capture amazing cityscapes under the best possible lighting conditions, with twilight being his favorite time of the day to shoot. The transition of natural light gradually fading from the sky as artificial lights begin to shine can transform a gritty street scene into something special. The creative inclusion of traffic light trails provides the final touch for a truly magical wonderland. As with his natural subjects, most of these images are also enhanced through a variety of special effects – usually digital in nature.
The focus of his work in this exhibition is the beauty of land and sea. Through long exposures to render crashing waves as a soft mist, to capturing the glory of a sunset, he illustrates the magnificence of seascape wonders.
His work has been exhibited in galleries in Montreal and New York, as well as a fine art museum in Florida. He’s been published in numerous books and magazines and is currently a member of NANPA (The North American Nature Photography Association) and the columnist of their Field Techniques feature in their monthly NANPA News publication. 7th Place - Murray Ince -"The Needles from Headon Warren"
I was born in Newport in 1957, on the whole, I enjoyed school and of course, my favorite subject was always art. I became a furniture maker and gradually moved into designing and manufacturing so I was always drawing and painting furniture designs. I took up painting seriously, though not full time in the early 1990’s, in 1996 I decided to do an A level Art and Design at the local college to get a taste of structured art learning and in 1997 did a teaching qualification. I love to teach people to draw and paint and have tutored classes at the Isle of Wight College. I take students for private tuition in my home studio, demonstrate for art groups and have run painting experiences for Warner Leisure and currently tutor The 5 Bells Art Group that meets in Brook on a Tuesday afternoon. I am a ‘Leader’ for HF Holidays, running painting and drawing holidays all over Britain as well as other painting holidays in Britain, France, and Italy.
My first love is Landscape painting and Winsor and Newton’s ‘Artisan’ oils; I have written a book titled ‘Landscape Painting In ‘Artisan’ Water-Mixable Oils’ and am a featured artist and product ambassador for Winsor and Newton. I write ‘How To’ paint articles for ‘Leisure Painter’ and the SAA’s ‘Paint’ magazines. I am a regular entrant to the Light, Space and Time art competitions and have been lucky enough to have had some success.
I exhibit on the Island regularly and have always got a painting on the go, I get a buzz every time I pick up a pencil or my brushes, I am never stuck for ideas or inspiration and always have at least a dozen paintings waiting to be done, the next painting is always just around the corner and who knows, maybe one day a masterpiece! Most of all though I enjoy teaching and showing students that painting can be a lot less daunting than they imagine, to witness the enthusiasm in creating a piece of art that they are proud of is simply magical!

8th Place – William Nourse - "Morning Glow"
Will Nourse is a landscape photographer known for his use of color and texture to bring his outdoor experiences to life.
He has been an avid photographer for almost twenty years, and his work reflects a lifetime of hiking, backpacking, climbing, skiing and sailing, all of which have given him a deep appreciation for the wonders of the natural world.
His work has been featured at the Paula Estey Gallery in Newburyport, MA and the Davis Orton Gallery in Hudson, NY and a series of images were featured in the first print edition of All About Photo Magazine in June, 2018. He has also been selected as a Featured Artist on the websites Light Space & Time, Fusion Art and Artsy Shark.
He has exhibited in juried shows at the Cambridge Art Association, the Newburyport Art Association (NAA), the Rockport Art Association, and various galleries across the country.

9th Place - Anne Stuer - "Wind & Waves #2"
Anne grew up in southern New Hampshire and currently lives in Norway, Maine. She took classes in drawing and painting as a child and her love of art grew with her into adulthood. After moving to Maine in 1994, she took many art classes with artist Arla Patch and explored several techniques and media, including watercolor, acrylic, pastels, mask-making, clay and more.
Anne took her first encaustic workshop with artists Kim Bernard and Dietlind Vander Schaaf at the Maine College of Art in Portland in March 2015. To broaden her skills, Anne has taken workshops with encaustic artists Emma Ashby in Portsmouth, NH and Jorge Luis Bernal in Santa Fe, NM. She also attended the Maine Coast Encaustic Workshop Retreat in Kennebunkport, ME in 2015, 2017 and 2018. All of these experiences have given Anne a strong foundation in encaustic painting.
Anne likes to explore the use of color in nature and in abstract paintings. She paints for the freedom and joy of the creative process, never knowing where a painting will lead her. 10th Place – Jerry Wein - "Twillingate"
Jerry Wein has been taking pictures for more than 50 years. His work explores the structure and character of both natural and built environments and phenomena, a diverse mix of people, places, and things.
As part of two-man shows in Warrensburg and Chestertown, he provided the terrestrial half of the Darkness and Light Exhibition with astrophotographer Bob Fisher.
Individually, he has exhibited at numerous shows in Eastern New York from New Paltz to Paul Smith’s. He received Juror’s Choice awards at the North Country Arts Photography Shows for both 2016 and 2017 and juried that show in 2018.
His work has been accepted at The Passporte online gallery, where he is represented in the Geometry Salon and where he received an Honorable Mention in the Passporte Prize for Surreal Photography Honoring Man Ray exhibition. He was recently cited as a Special Recognition Artist and also received Special Merit Awards in the Light Space & Time online gallery.
