Artist Biography

Silvia Marcoschamer (Marcos) was born in Mexico City, lived in Israel as a teenager and later returns to live in the land where she was born. However, the stage of her life in which she lived in Israel was decisive for her artistic and cultural formation. Daughter of a mother painter, she was very close to the world of art. Photography captivated her from the moment she had to use it as a requirement of her work as a Pedagogue and educator, paving the way in the field of the application of audiovisual resources and computers in education.

She is a graduate of the New York Institute of Photography and the Escuela Superior de Fotografía in Mexico City with a diploma in Media Production from the Colegio Americano de Fotografía. She participated in the following workshops: Photoshop (Centro de Diseño, Cine y TV, Mexico City), “Out of Acadia” (Acadia National Park, Maine), “Wild about Wildflowers, Boyce Thompson Arboretum, Superior, Arizona). She was a collaborator of the monthly magazine "Sale la Foto" distributed by the newspaper Reforma in Mexico.

Since 1991, Silvia has received several national and international awards and her photographs have been exposed in Galleries and Museums in Mexico City, Oaxaca, San Francisco CA, and Long Island NY. Now retired from formal work, she has decided to devote herself fully to her passion, photography. It can be scenes that she finds in her walk-through life or scenes deliberately planned and fulfilled. The photographic work of Silvia Marcos tries to show aspects of life that represent the beauty that we find in the world around us, in nature, like a landscape, a seascape, a sunset, a flower, a plant. She focuses the attention especially in the macro world of flowers and plants.

Silvia’s work is not only from nature elements, she also works Abstract scenes flooded with colors, forms, textures, rhythms, spaces and dimensions. She usually goes out to Botanical Gardens, Parks, Flower Markets and she shoots there. Sometimes she buys flowers and plants to take home and to work in her studio. When she has the opportunity to travel, she takes her equipment with her and shoots. She works with edition programs to process the work and she publishes it in her social media net.

Artist Statement

Since I was young, I observed that people don’t notice the beauty of the world that surround us, like a beautiful sunset, a gorgeous landscape, and the pistils of a flower. I want them to see what exists in front of our eyes and many of them, submerged in their worries and in their daily rush, have stopped seeing it and therefore appreciating it. My intention is to show another aspect, the almost imperceptible at sight, the macro world, which exists but because of its size we cannot perceive it. It is a world hidden to the naked eye and therefore fascinating. To see in detail and in another perspective the nature that surrounds us is simply amazing.

When I see a beautiful flower, I try to find the right angle that shows its personality, because, being sure of that, I can discover that the right aspect of each flower combined with the right color of background results in a great composition. My work with flowers and plants is not a botanical work to study Biology; it is an imagination exercise of finding the personality of the plant or flower because you can see in them human features like shyness, elegant, sensitive, crazy, calm, friendly, generous, and proud among others.

I have dedicated myself to capturing magical moments to transform them into images that will be remembered forever. I seek to show through my work the beauty that surrounds us; transmit a moment of happiness, a feeling of peace, tranquility, love. My wish is that the viewer of my work experiences a feeling of pleasure for his senses, like a caress on the soul.
