The “Solo Art Series” is a series of monthly solo art exhibitions for established artists who have a body of work to present to the public.  Artist participants were asked to submit the following 3 components for the “Solo Art Series” competition; 1.  Their art.  2.  Their artist biography.  3.  Their artist statement.  These elements were evaluated and judged, which resulted in the selection of the artists who will be featured in individual month-long solo art exhibitions.  This is the sixth “Solo Art Series” Art Competition the gallery has conducted.

Below is Toni’s Artist Biography, her Artist Statement, along with 25 pieces of her paintings.  We hope that you will take the time to read Toni’s information and to take a look at her creative and fascinating aerial-view paintings.

Artist Biography:

Born in Philadelphia, I studied painting at the Philadelphia College of Art and design and silkscreen printing at the School of Visual Arts. A Manhattan-based artist and graphic designer, my work is featured in private and corporate collections and has been in many exhibitions including solo shows in New York at the Studio Gallery in Chelsea, Adelante Gallery, James Beard Gallery, Rockefeller Gallery, Speakeasy Gallery, Blue Hill Plaza, Interchurch Center and National Arts Club. A selection of group shows includes Van der Plas, Gallery 440, Studio 5404 Art Space, Blue Mountain, Prince Street, Pen and Brush, Dacia Gallery, The Chelsea Art Museum. Also Kaller Fine Arts in Washington, DC and George Segal Gallery and Riverside Gallery in NJ.

Artist Statement:

My aerial-view paintings represent diverse places and spaces of the contemporary landscape seen from an aboveground perspective. The flattened surface planes convey the textures of abstract space enhanced by compositional aesthetics and skillful use of color. From the elevated position of high-rise buildings and helicopters, my images of cities and towns, factories and farmlands, power plants, suburban communities and highways are delivered with a distinctive angle on structures frequently taken for granted.

Through the aerial vantage point, one discovers a modern perspective and fresh visual vocabulary. The flattened plane reduces details to strong graphic images.

More than just a recording of the contemporary landscape, my paintings are my own interpretation of the essence of these scenes. They combine elements of abstraction and representation, pattern and grid, surface and illusion, as well as observation, imagination, and memory. Whether hovering high above city streets and highways, floating serenely over the countryside, or soaring above towns, harbors and monuments, they examine the relationship between man-made and natural, urban and rural, agrarian and industrial, power, labor and leisure. My work can be understood on many levels, from the simple interplay of shape and color to the narrative of the pictorial story.

Additional information, press, and visuals can be seen on my website www.tonisart.com.
